COMO Laucala Island, Fiji

Few places on earth offer the level of exclusivity, privacy, service and sheer wow factor found at COMO Laucala Island in Fiji's remote northern region. Accessed from Nadi International airport onboard the islands's own private aircraft, the scenic 50 minute flight is just the beginning of this luxury paradise experience. White sand beaches, turquoise lagoons and jungle-clad hills set the scene on this idyllic 3,500 acre private island where sustainabilty and style go hand-in-hand to create a sanctuary of tropical hideaway perfection. With just 25 stunning and incredibly spacious Fijian-style villas catering to a maximum of 80 guests hosted by a team of almost 400, the staff to guest ratio is one of the best in the world. Impeccable service comes with genuine Fijian warmth, and a sense of place is ever-present.

Sleep

The breathtaking villas are unique and luxurious, with natural materials used throughout, and each featuring a private pool, expansive decking areas and tropical gardens. Villas are dotted along the pristine beach, amongst the palms in the old coconut plantation, or elevated on Nawi Mountain, with a range of one, two or three bedrooms. COMO Laucala's most eye-catching villa has to be the overwater retreat, hugging the rugged coastline and elevated above the turquoise lagoon, complete with private pool seamlessly carved into the rocks. For absolute privacy and exclusivity, the Peninsula Villa sits on its own emerald outcrop with endless views and hidden outdoor areas connected by wooden bridges. The owner's magificent Hilltop Estate (Red Bull's co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz bought the island in 2003) sits high above the resort with unparalled elegance and opulence, including a private chef and a nanny. Given the area the resort covers, each villa includes a golf buggy so guests can get around and explore at their own pace.

Eat

As expected at a resort of this calibre, the dining options are varied and exquisite. All meals and most beverages are included in your stay, and you can choose to dine in any of the five the restaurants, in the privacy of your villa, on the beach, along the jetty or anywhere you like! The elegant colonial-style Plantation House overlooks the picturesque coconut plantation and is the ideal place to start your day with a delicious farm-to-table breakfast and a cup of COMO Laucala's own coffee blend. The island boasts its own farm and is 80% self-sufficient, growing everything from vanilla, broccoli and tea to chickens, cows and pigs. Tucked away on the peninsula, Seagrass Restaurant overlooks the coral-filled lagoon and serves delicious Asian-inspired dishes. A pre-dinner cocktail at the bar is a must! Enjoy light meals and casual dining at the Beach Bar or fresh joice and coconut milk at the Pool Bar and as evening arrives, head to the Rock Lounge for spectacular sunsets and delicious cocktails whilst watching turtles swim in the lagoon below. Keep an eye out for Laucala's unique and very beautiful orange dove.

Pamper & Play

With water so blue and sand so white, it's easy to spend your days relaxing and switching off from everyday life. At the heart of the resort, the vast and beautifully landscaped free-form lagoon pool (the largest in the southern hemipshere) is a wonderful place to relax when you're not enjoying your villa's private pool. But if you feel energetic, the options at COMO Laucala are boundless. From snorkelling, surfing, sailing, diving and jetskiing to fishing, horseriding, tennis and golf (COMO Laucala's stunning 18-hole gourse was the designed by Scotsman David McLay Kidd). Laucala has an impressive collection of 14 boats of varying sizes for various uses! There's also a traditional village on the island for an authentic insight into Fiji life. A highlight at Laucala has to be the incredible DeepFlight submarine; a state-of-the-art 2 person sub that flies through the ocean to areas that previously existed only in the imagination! Every guest has the opportunity to experience the sub once during their stay! The spa is a welcome sanctuary and offers an array of heavenly treatments and therapies.

Families

Children of all ages are welcome at Laucala. As the resort covers a large area, privacy and peace for adult guests and honeymooners remains sacred. The Kids Club offers an educational and fun experience for little ones and young teenagers. Unique experiences include treasure hunts with compasses and disposable cameras for exploring. Painting, carving, beach play and even bubble-making dive courses are all on offer. Other activities include mountain biking, farm tours, tennis, pony rides, various water activities and golf. The friendly COMO Laucala staff will happily play a game of rugby or volleyball - adults are welcome to play too!

The resort's chefs will be delighted to take little guests on the farm tour where they have the chance to stroke the animals, pick fruit and vegetables and then head back to the kitchen and use their freshly plucked ingredients to create their very own culinary masterpiece with Executive Chef Anthony Healy.

All villas, except the Peninsula Villa, can accommodate one child up to the age of 11 years. For families with two or more children, one of the two or three-bedroom villas will be ideal.
