Wickaninnish Inn, Tofino

A boutique bolthole at the edge of the Pacific Ocean on the wild west coast of Vancouver Island, ‘The Wick’ as it’s widely known, has been a firm favourite with travellers to the island for a number of years and it certainly inspires awe with its jaw-dropping vistas. The beauty of the outside world is reflected indoors at every turn, from the panoramic windows with that billion-dollar view to the custom-designed furniture crafted from driftwood and votive candle holders made from ocean-smoothed pebbles. One of the only Relais & Châteaux properties in western Canada, The Wickaninnish Inn is a jewel in British Columbia’s coastal crown.

Wickaninnish Inn

Sleep

Divided across the original Pointe Building and the fractionally more modern Beach Building, natural materials are used throughout the property, from hand-adzed (a traditional method of carving and smoothing wood) red cedar panels on the doors to slate tiles on the roof. Each of the 60 Deluxe Rooms, 12 Suites and three Premiere Rooms offer rustic elegance on nature’s edge, with floor-to-ceiling windows, plush king-sized beds and electric fireplaces. Each room is identical in layout and amenities; it's simply the view which changes as you ascend the floors of the two buildings. We highly recommend booking a room on the second floor or above, ensuring you get that wave-crashing panorama to wake to each day. If looking for a little extra space or you're travelling with little ones, the Suites offer a home-from-home Canadian cabin-esque experience like no other.

Eat

Superb food and exceptional service are hallmarks of this stylishly unique and characterful coastal hideaway, centred around the award-winning Pointe Restaurant, which boasts panoramic ocean views morning, noon and night. Have a car-free day, starting with a walk on the beach, followed by a coffee and freshly baked pastry in the Driftwood Café. Ask the team the night before to prepare you a backpack lunch and set off with your beach towels for an afternoon of fun in the sun. Enjoy sundowners at the On the Rocks Bar and a gourmet dinner at The Pointe. Beyond the hand-carved hotel doors, local bars and eateries are in abundance. Enjoy breakfast from Summit Bread Company, Common Loaf Bake Shop or Rhino Coffee House, lunch at the infamous Tacofino taco van and dinner at one of many of the fabulous restaurants in town, our favourites being Wolf in the Fog, Shed and Shelter.

Play & Pamper

Whatever outdoor pursuits you have planned during your time in Tofino, make sure you’re back in time for some much-deserved pampering at the Ancient Cedars Spa, offering a sumptuous list of massage and beauty treatments. There is also a sauna available to book for all guests. With the Pacific Rim National Park on your doorstep, we’ll work with you to ensure you have the necessary Parks Canada pass to access the hikes and hidden beaches which line this stunning stretch of coastline. The sleepy town of Ucluelet is about 45 minutes south of the Wickaninnish Inn by car and is definitely worth a visit one morning or afternoon. Frequented by kayakers and hikers in the summer and storm-watchers in the winter, grab a hot chocolate from Zoe’s Bakery and Café and set out on your adventure.
