Six Senses Zighy Bay, Oman
With an almost biblical location on the Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman, Six Senses Zighy Bay is flanked by the rugged Hajar Mountains and the azure, crystalline waters of Zighy Bay. This is remote with a capital R, however access is actually very easy with flights into Dubai’s state-of-the-art airport followed by a two hour road transfer. A dramatic 4x4 drive down into the bay is how most guests choose to arrive or perhaps the idea of a 15 minute speedboat ride from the nearby port is more appealing. For thrill seekers who are after a truly ‘Bond-esque’ sense of arrival, why not paraglide in across the bay!
Six Senses Zighy Bay
Barefoot, intelligent luxury best describes the accommodation here. Expect plenty of natural stone, weathered timbers and stylishly eclectic décor. Middle Eastern flavours are in abundance with cool white-washed walls, colourful plump cushions and shady living and dining areas; we love the private wine cellars – so much more than just a mini bar! All villas have private pools; some have magical sunset views and others a personal spa treatment room for indulging in heavenly in-villa Six Senses Spa pampering.
Dining is as memorable as the location. Our favourite has to be Sense of the Edge for a mountain-top, fine dining sensory extravaganza. The Spice Market is for all things ‘Arabia’ in an authentic setting and for a unique Bedouin dining feast head to the Shua Shack. The Summer House is cool, calm and perfect for a lazy lunch – their list of homemade ice cream is out of this world! The Zighy Bar is a welcoming space overlooking the Wadi – ‘happy hour’ is referred to as the No Rush Hour.
Six Senses Spas are renowned and Zighy Bay is no exception; this divine escape is a total refuge for the mind, body and soul. For those who get their kicks from a little more spice, the list of activities on offer is almost endless. From paragliding, mountain biking and hiking, to rock climbing, scuba diving, sea kayaking and sunset cruises, there is a veritable feast of experiences and many showcasing the fascinating culture of Oman.
Turquoise honeymooners staying a minimum of 3 nights at Six Senses Zighy Bay receive a welcome gift, a Romance Bath Ritual for two and a set three course dinner at the Spice Market (beverages not included) once during their stay.
Honeymooners staying 7 nights or more will also receive a complimentary Six Senses 60 minute spa treatment for two.
Guests are advised that they will be required to show a copy of their marriage certificate on arrival as proof of eligibility for this offer
GLAMPING ABOARD 75” SY AZURRA
One of Oman’s least known treasures, the World Heritage Listed Dimanyat Islands are an archipelago of nine atolls, only 11 nautical miles off the coast of Muscat. Uninhabited apart from a small police outpost, the islands are a nature reserve with spectacular coral reefs, ideal for snorkelling and diving - and you are definitely far from the mobile grid! Family glamping takes on a new meaning here as you set sail from Muscat’s Wave Marina aboard the magnificent 75” sailing catamaran, SY Azzura. Azzura can cater for up to a maximum of 8 guests (perfect for two families) and you will sleep on the huge nets of the yacht under the stars – without compromising on comfort! The crew of five includes a full-time chef – food on board is a gourmet affair (wine and beer can be arranged for an extra cost). Children as young as six are encouraged to help set the course, steer the yacht and older teenagers can assist with the sails. Drop anchor off one of the atolls and spend the days snorkelling, exploring on land and fishing from the tender. The yacht will island hop for two days and if mobile withdrawal symptoms really set in, the crew can always send your mobile up the mast in an effort to send and receive messages! The best time to go is either the Easter school holidays or October half term.
