Small, yet perfectly formed, sums up the beautiful Baros – a tiny picture-perfect island floating within the North Malé Atoll. Getting there is easy – it’s just an exhilarating 20 minute speedboat transfer from the airport. This exceptional island is a Maldivian original and she recently celebrated her 40th birthday. Having undergone a total rebuild a few years ago, Baros is looking sensational. One of the things we love most about this intimate resort (and there are a few reasons) is the devotion of the staff – many have been with Baros for many years and we have to say you would be hard pushed to find a resort that offers a more genuine service than the one that awaits you here.
The accommodation is everything you dream a fantasy desert island to be; elegant and contemporary yet idyllic and romantic. Thatched roofs sit inperfect harmony with their surroundings, whilst the interiors offer lavish bathrooms and state-of-the-art amenities.
For many, the quintessential Maldivian experience comes in the form of overwater bungalows, your own private escape set over the shimmering waters of the lagoon, and the Water Villas at Baros do not disappoint – think wooden decks complete with four-poster day beds and steps leading down in the azure waters.
For added exclusivity, we love the Water Pool Villas with their private swimming pools set into the deck. A dedicated villa host is on hand to attend to your every desire. The beach based accommodation is no less dreamy. Deluxe Villas sit peacefully beneath the swaying palm fronds in gardens of flowers just footsteps from the glorious sands and the equally romantic Baros Villas have expansive outdoor space and stylishly chic interiors.
When it comes to dining the Executive Chef makes no apology for his claim that whilst the resort may be small and in the midst of the Indian Ocean, the food is comparable to the best in the world. With three restaurants and two bars you are spoilt for choice, particularly when The Lighthouse Restaurant is acclaimed as one of the best in the Maldives.
A freshwater infinity-edge swimming pool that curves over lagoon invites you to relax and enjoy light snacks from Lime Restaurant’s a la carte menu. We all agree that this overwater pool is one of the loveliest in the Maldives.
Baros is a beautiful classic island offering a romantic and quiet high end honeymoon experience. Baros Maldives has been voted the No. 1 hotel in 2018 for the Tripadvisor Travelers choice awards.
With spacious villas, private pools and romantic private experiences it’s the perfect island to celebrate your wedding.
As young children (under 8) are not permitted on the island, Baros appeals to couples looking for a quiet escape. If you can peel yourself away from your four-poster day bed, in the day head out snorkelling over the amazing house reef – Turtles are sure to be seen and at night Indulge in one of the best restaurants in the Maldives at ‘Light House’ whilst watching the sunset and listening to jazz music for a truly romantic evening.
Best Room for Honeymooners
The Deluxe Villas are spacious and fresh and perfect for lazy days and offer a lovely outdoor garden shower.
If you are a water lover then we highly recommend the Over Water Villas where you can go snorkelling straight from your villa and see the most incredible sea life. Each water villa has a four poster day bed and direct steps in to the ocean.
For the ultimate in luxury go for the Over Water Pool Villas – This is the perfect room if you are looking for privacy and don’t want to leave the comfort of your own villa. At night watch the lights twinkle in your sunken pool and even enjoy dinner by your pool.
Baros has a fantastic choice of honeymoon experiences and romantic dining options.
One of the most romantic dining experiences is to have a dinner or picnic on their nearby sandbank. You can privately hire the sandbank for a romantic dinner whilst watching the sunset with just the two of you and your own staff whilst enjoying a stunning dinner created by your personal chef.
The Piano Deck is also a very elegant and unique romantic dining experience. Poised above the lagoon and shaped like a Piano it is the ideal dining experience for a romantic dinner under the stars.
If you love sailing then you will love a private Nooma Experience. Set sail on a traditional Maldivian sailing Dhoni boat. Gourmet meals are served on board by your personal butler, dine on the secluded sun deck and sleep in the double bedroom while cruising the North Male Atoll.
The more active honeymooners may enjoy a Sunset Dolphin Cruise or an Island Discovery trip. We also recommend the Sunset Cruise with Champagne and Canapes and recommend indulging in the wonderful Spa.
Turquoise honeymooners staying a minimum of 4 nights and travelling within 6 months of their wedding will receive a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolates in your villa upon arrival, a honeymoon photo frame and one candlelit dinner per stay (menu set by the resort).
Baros has been operating since 1979 and their Dive centre was one of the first dive centred in the Maldives. It is a PADI five star Gold Palm Dive Centre with a full experienced team offering you diving courses and lessons for beginners to Night Diving for the more experienced divers.
Baros Maldives has the great advantage of being situated in the middle of the Atoll which gives Baros an all year around opportunity to dive in one of the most amazing dive spots. Even the house reef is a very popular diving spot as they are fortunate enough to have one of the healthiest house reefs in the Maldives.
Due to the long term establishment of the dive centre and its owners they also have dive spots on offer which are exclusive areas only dived by Divers Baros Maldives. This means you won’t have other hotel guests diving with you offering you a more private diving experience.
Night diving is also available on a regular basis and also the new exciting Fluo night dive which is where you dive with special lights to generate the maximum amount of bio-fluorescence meaning you will see the most amazing colours.
Staying one week it is very likely to see the top 10 of the Maldives marine life: 1 Shark, 2 Rays, 3 Turtles, 4. Napoleon wrasse, 5 Moray eels, 6 Groupers, 7 Snappers, 8 Tuna, 9 Trevally, 10 Lionfish
If you are interested to see manta rays we recommend visiting Baros in March to April or in September to November.
