Tam Coc Gardens, Ninh Binh
Occasionally we stumble upon a hidden gem and when we first saw Tam Coc Gardens we knew we had found somewhere special. This charming boutique hotel has beautiful setting in the middle of rice paddies, surrounded by waterways and spectacular limestone karst scenery, it is remote and beautiful and nearby Tam Coc town is just 10 minutes’ drive away. Just one and a half hours south of Hanoi but a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we would urge anyone looking for a few days to discover some of Vietnam’s most understated, but beautiful scenery to visit Ninh Binh Province. It is the perfect retreat for a few days chill out in the midst of your Vietnam journey and guests can drive to Halong Bay from here, making it an easy addition between Hanoi and Halong Bay.
Tam Coc Gardens
The hotel itself has just eight bungalows scattered around tropical gardens and the main pool and restaurant. The rooms are simply designed with local features, décor comprises of local stone, wood, traditional tiles, ceramic and bamboo and each rooms has a private terrace opening onto the rice fields. Choose between Superior, Deluxe and Premium – all the same inside just a better view the higher the category.
The hotel’s restaurant serves up regional Vietnamese favourites and the pool bar offers a selection of drinks to be enjoyed by the pool at sunset.
Guests at Tam Coc Gardens can borrow bikes and explore the Vietnam countryside and local villages, head to town for a cruise on the Ngo Dog River, (we recommend doing this early in the morning before it gets too busy). We’d also recommend visiting nearby Van Long Nature Reserve during your time in the province, for similar scenery but fewer people.
