Tamarind Village, Chiang Mai
Located in the heart of Chiang Mai, Thailand’s cultural hub, Tamarind Village is a charming and unique Lanna-style boutique property. Found at the end of an inviting bamboo lined driveway just off one of the main streets that runs through the walled old town of the city, the resort is typically northern Thai architecturally set around a series of garden courtyards. One of the courtyards is home to a 200-year-old Tamarind tree from which the resort takes its name.
Tamarind Village
Each of the 42 guest rooms and 3 suites are decorated in a contemporary Thai style that reflects the ethnic diversity of the region with the use of hill tribe textiles, accessories and motifs. All rooms feature modern fully equipped bathrooms with rain showers and unusual copper basins, and include tea and coffee making facilities, satellite TVs and safes. Suites also boast DVD players and bathtubs with separate showers. Turquoise recommends upgrading to a Lanna Deluxe Room for that extra little bit of space or a suite for the ultimate in comfort and amenities.
Dining takes place at the Ruen Tamarind Restaurant, which serves a range of mouth-watering Thai and international dishes in a poolside setting - choose from either eating indoors or on the pool terrace. Try the delicious northern Thai ‘gaeng hang lay’ a mild pork and ginger curry, the recipe for which has passed through family generations.
When not exploring the many temples of the old town, getting adventurous in the surrounding countryside, shopping in the night bazaar or along the Sunday walking market that passes the entrance to the resort, there is nowhere better to relax than at The Village Spa. Using only the finest herbal preparations, the superbly trained therapists work wonders rejuvenating body and soul.
The comfortable accommodation, relaxed atmosphere, delicious food and outstanding Spa are all brought together by a warm and friendly team, who manage to provide guests with a feeling of being home-from-home. Tamarind Village is a true northern gem.
