Located several hundred metres above the plains of Central Java, with a spectacular setting encircled by eight magnificent volcanoes and set within fifty-five acres of gardens, plantation and tropical jungle this retreat is truly special and a wonderful place to unwind at the start of your holiday to Indonesia. Basing yourself at Mesa Stila you are half way between the cities of Yogyakarta and Semarang (approx. 1.5 – 2 hours’ drive, both are accessible with a direct flight from Singapore) and are only one hour’s drive from the magnificent Borobudur temple, an easy day tour from here. However, a stay at Mesa Stila offers so much more, with its sublime setting in this pristine rural location, you are surrounded by adventure and culture, from exploring the coffee plantation, cycling or trekking through the nearby hills to local villages and even rafting. Within the resort there is an impressive spa offering everything from simple massage to complete wellness packages, a swimming pool with heavenly views, tennis, fitness, horse-riding (they have five horses) and even a kids club and playground. This place is really worth spending at least three of four nights so you have time to explore the temples and well as enjoying the local area.
The resort’s centre is based on the original buildings, dating back over 200 years. The lobby is a heritage 1878 railway station and the club house a former heritage Dutch mansionm a gorgeous space to relax and enjoy afternoon tea. The villas are scattered amongst the hillside and are crafted from original Javanese antique wooden houses, all individually decorated with original antiques and art collections. The twenty-three villas are all extremely specious with modern facilities, a large living area and outdoor veranda offering breath- taking views overlooking the coffee plantation or mountains. The Plantation Villas have a separate living and sleeping area, whilst the Arum Villas have traditional Javanese décor and huge balconies overlooking the mountains. Families are well catered for in the Ambar family villas which either have a main bedroom with a separate single room, or another has two bedrooms.
Dining has a focus of Javanese food, using organic local produce, some grown in the resorts own gardens, guests can also join a cooking class during their stay. Mesa Stila is one of those special places that we urge you to try, a lovely way to start your journey in Indonesia and a great place to unwind, explore and spend some time before flying over to Bali for your beach break, just an hour flight from Yogyakarta or Semarang.
Stay: A Three Day / Two Night package starts from £430 per person including accommodation in a One Bedroom Plantation Villas, daily breakfast, all private transfers and touring to local villages and Borobudur Temple. Three nights starts from £515 per person.
