Shawa Luangwa

Shawa Luangwa sits right on the Luangwa River in South Luangwa, one of Zambia’s best areas for safari. It’s a really wild and remote part of the park, with the river, lagoons, woodland and open plains creating a great mix of habitats and plenty of wildlife.

There’s excellent game viewing here throughout the year, with elephant, buffalo, hippo, lion, leopard and wild dog all found in the area. South Luangwa is also famous for its walking safaris, and the Nsefu Sector is a brilliant place to get out on foot and experience the bush at a much slower pace. You can also see Thornicroft’s giraffe and Cookson’s wildebeest, two species particularly associated with the Luangwa Valley.

Each activity offers a different perspective of this wonderfully wild part of Zambia.
