Nkwali Safari Camp, Zambia
Robin Pope was one of the Pioneers of safari in Zambia. He brought in new methods of wildlife conservation, guiding and working with the local community. His methods were seen as extraordinary at the time, cynics thought backwards; however they can now be seen as ground breakings as much of what he introduced 50 years ago are now the founding principles of safari and conservation throughout Africa today.
When Robin, and his wife Jo, first travelled through south Luangwa, they came across an enormous ebony tree in a stunning river view location. They instantly decided that this was going to be their home. 50 years later, we now have Nkwali Camp, which remains to be one of the leading camps in South Luangwa.
Nkwali
The camp has six chalets, which are are spacious and during the day are opened up so that you can enjoy the spectacular river view, then in the evenings the constantia grill doors are pulled together to ensure no wildlife gets near. The rooms are beautifully decorated, and with stylishly designed en-suite bathrooms, complete with semi-outdoor showers, from which you can enjoy the enormous African sky.
Set overlooking a beautiful lagoon – where elephants often come in for a drink - are the dining room and swimming pool, where you can eat drink and relax throughout the day, as you choose.
On top of all this, Robin Pope is famous for its walking activities (and safaris), which are on offer here at Nkwali. You couldn’t be under more expert leadership as Robin Pope have some of the best guides in Africa, and that is no exaggeration!
