Fabulous Beaches and Jungle Adventure

Discover the wild side of Sabah in Borneo, one of only two Asian destinations (the other being Sumatra in Indonesia) where orang-utans can be found in the rainforest. Stay in the fabulously kid friendly Shangri La Tanjung Aru before heading into the jungle for a 2 night adventure, end your journey at the idyllic Bunga Raya Resort, on one of Asia most beaufitul bays and surrounded by unspoilt rainforest.

  • Days 1-3 Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu

Arrive in Kuala Lumpur and connect with your flight to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. Spend the next 3 nights at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, set on a peninsula, just a ten minute transfer from the airport. A firm favourite with families, the resort has interconnecting rooms with sea views of the outlying islands (which are a fun excursion by speedboat). Kids will be thrilled with the beach, the watersports and swimming pools, the ‘Cool Zone’ Kids Club and mini waterpark. KK’s vibrant night markets offer a valuable glimpse into Borneo’s culture and cuisine before you head into the untamed jungle! Venture downtown one night to witness KK come alive with the sounds and smells of chicken grilling and seafood sizzling. Local hotspot, the Port View Seafood Village, is the best place for the day’s freshest catch!

Stay: 2 nights in interconnecting Seaview Rooms at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, including breakfast

  • Beady Eyed Orang Utan Baby

Days 4-5 Borneo Nature Lodge, Sandakan and the Kinabatangan River

Take a short flight to Sandakan where your awaiting guide will take you to the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre for your first orang-utan encounter! From your viewing area on a wooden boardwalk, watch your children’s bewildered faces light up as the trees begin to shake and a flash of orange appears! Then embark on a boat journey through the jungle backwaters of the Kinabatangan River (Sabah’s longest river), for a wildlife spotting adventure like no other in Southeast Asia! The thickly forested river banks are home to proboscis monkeys, wild orang-utans, Borneo pygmy elephants, macaque monkeys and monitor lizards. The excitement in your boat will be palpable as the animals become visible through the rainforest camouflage, aided by the expert eyes of your guide – and some binoculars too! The birdlife is incredible – look out for eagles, egrets, hornbills and eager kingfishers, ready to dive into the water to fish! Your refuge for 2 nights is Borneo Nature Lodge, an eco-lodge with comfortable air-conditioned ensuite cabins, built under the jungle canopy. From dawn to dusk, you will never tire of ticking wildlife off your list!

Stay: 2 nights in 2 Chalets at Borneo Nature Lodge including all meals and touring.
