Hotel del Coronado, San Diego
The grande dame of San Diego, this iconic red-tiled beachfront hotel has been wowing its guests for almost 130 years. Known affectionately as ‘The Del’, this timeless classic has entertained many of Hollywood’s elite over the years as well as a number of US presidents, and shot to even higher fame when the movie ‘Some Like It Hot’ was filmed here. Located on the peaceful residential island of Coronado, just a stone’s throw from downtown San Diego, The Del blends relaxed SoCal lifestyle with sophisticated charm.
Hotel del Coronado
Set in 28 acres along a stunning stretch of beach, the choice of accommodation is varied and impressive at The Del. Step back into the hotel’s past with a stay in one of the charming historic rooms in the Victorian building or opt for contemporary seaside style and ocean views in rooms dotted throughout the Victorian building, in the Ocean Towers and the poolside California Cabanas. Couples and honeymooners will love the privacy and exclusivity at the luxurious Beach Village, a gated oceanfront haven with cottages and villas ranging from one to three bedrooms featuring private patios and balconies; a truly indulgent retreat within this legendary resort.
Blessed with incredible sea views and beautiful sunsets, The Del is a great place to be anytime of the day or night. Choose from eight, yes eight, bars and restaurants – ranging from fine dining with a seafood twist at 1500 Ocean to Mexican dishes with plenty of margaritas on the Sun Deck, and from cocktails in Babcock & Story Bar (named after the hotel’s founders) to locally renowned Sunday Brunch in the historic Crown Room… if walls could talk, they’d have a tale or two to tell here! For a sustainable sea-to-table dining experience, Serẽa offers a delectable coastal cuisine menu with a focus on the region's ocean, as well as the farms and fields from California to the Baja Peninsula. One of our favourite places for a sundowner has to be the Sunset Bar followed by sensational pizzas with views to match at ENO. During the day, cool off at 1950s-inspired MooTime Creamery with a delicious ice cream or head to the seasonal Boardwalk Bar and grab a refreshing drink on the beach.
With a fantastic beach on your doorstep, you’ll spend a fair amount of your stay with the sand between your toes, but the hotel and San Diego itself has a huge array of activities on offer. One of the quirkiest places to be in sunny San Diego has to be the hotel’s ice rink, open from Thanksgiving until early January. Another great addition to The Del’s activity list is Mermaid Fitness – don a mermaid tail and enjoy a pool fitness class with a difference! Just a boat ride or a quick drive over the bridge from Coronado Island, San Diego is a vibrant yet chilled SoCal city with attractions including the world-famous zoo and SeaWorld with its renowned orca whales.
