Jabal Akhdar

Jabal Akhdar, meaning ‘The Green Mountain’ in Arabic, forms the central part of the Hajar mountain range, spanning over 300 kilometres to the south of Muscat. Frequently referred to as the Grand Canyon of Oman, visiting this stunning mountain region is a truly unique and awesome experience. Accessible by 4X4 from Muscat, the drive time is just over two hours, taking you on a beautiful journey through remote landscapes and local villages, up to a heady height of over 2000 metres. Visit for the day or base yourself at either the Anantara or Alila mountain properties, both boasting incredible views and a multitude of activities - whatever your level of adventurousness. Once you’ve climbed, hiked and biked, take a day to visit the ancient city of Nizwa. Get lost amidst the Nizwa Souq and discover the rich history of the Nizwa Fort, one of the oldest forts in Oman.
