W Costa Navarino

Gloriously under-the-radar, the Peloponnese peninsula is one of mainland Greece’s greatest secrets. With more than 4,500 years of history, countless monuments and an abundance of natural beauty, the region is a blissfully uncrowded alternative to the better-known Greek islands. Just 45 minutes from Kalamata Airport, the beautiful south-west region of the Peloponnese, known as Messinia, is home to Costa Navarino. It is a childhood dream fulfilled for one local man, Captain Vassilis. Born in 1935 in the small village of Diavolitsi, he loved Messinia and dreamt of putting it on the global travel map. After years working at sea, encouraged by his wife Carmen, he took out a loan to buy a small ship and established Costamare Shipping Company, a venture that proved hugely successful. But despite this, he held on to the boyhood dream and in the early Eighties, began acquiring land, planting the seeds of Costa Navarino. Today, that dream is a reality, one that has been taken on by his son Achilles and celebrates all that Captain Vassilis loved and believed in: sustainability (he was an environmental activist ahead of his time) and a whole-hearted celebration of the beauty, culture, history, and hospitality of his beloved Messinia. Sweeping the stunning Ionian coastline and surrounded by a sun-drenched olive-dotted countryside, there is little doubt the effortless charm of this region will enchant you from the moment you arrive.

Costa Navarino comprises several hotels including the contemporary adults only W Hotel. Located at the Navarino Waterfront, a 30 acre beachfront setting by the Ionian Sea, this is the first W Hotel in Greece and it brings inspiring energy to the Peloponnese coast. Exclusively for adults and young persons over 12 years, the W's contemporary design seamlessly blends with the 4,500 year old rich history and culture for which this region is so renowned.

The Greek architects took inspiration from the local Messinian villages and designed low rise buildings carved out of Peloponnese stone. The muted palette cast in wood, rock, and reed blends softly into the lavender, jasmine and oleander-infused beachfront setting.

In keeping with the W's famously fun, vibrant and tongue-in-cheek branding, there are 246 'Wonderful', 'Fabulous', 'Spectacular' and 'Wow' stylish guest rooms, suites and villas, spread throughout the landscaped gardens. All have waterfront, sea or pool views. The Fabulous Infinity Swim Up Guest Rooms share a 90 metre ground floor pool, perfect for an early morning dip whilst the Spectacular Panorama rooms enjoy a top floor location with panoramic sea and bay views.

The Wow Infinity Suites have a choice of 1 or 2 bedrooms, with a beachfront setting or rooftop bay view. The Villas have 3 bedrooms, with a garden or seafront view. All Villas and Suites have a private infinity pool (heated in April, May and October). Guests in the suites and Villas enjoy a complimentary bottle of Champagne on arrival, a complimentary cocktail at the beach club or sunset bar, beach bags with towels and sunscreen and a complimentary arrival transfer from Kalamata airport for stays of 5 nights or more.

Play and Pamper

The W Costa Navarino fuses fun (a poolside DJ and  vibrant beach club) with wellness, watersports, golf, tennis, hillside hiking trails and an opportunity to explore local villages and seek out Messinian ruins. This area in the southwest Peloponnese is one of the most unspoiled and breathtaking Mediterranean seascapes and the rich history and authentic experiences on offer are well worth exploring.
