Uga Ghiri

Each of the stylish villas measures a generous 1200ft sq., with an airy living space leading to a private balcony with jacuzzi overlooking the tea plantations. Interiors are contemporary mixing neutral colours with the textures and heritage of Sri Lankan craftsmanship in the art and furnishings. En-suite bathrooms feature a bathtub as well as walk-in shower and dual vanities.

The heart of the property is the restored colonial manor house, with airy terraces and comfortable seating, a cosy bar with pool table and thoughtfully designed restaurant. Cool afternoons invite you to lounge around the roaring fireplace in the drawing room with a cup of tea. Menus have been carefully curated to showcase Sri Lanka’s vibrant flavours, and we love the choice of dining spaces, both indoors and outdoors.

Whilst there’s much to do outside of the hotel, there is plenty here at Uga Ghiri to fill your days, too. Take a dip in the 15 metre infinity swimming pool. Or head to the Uga spa for a sauna or steam, followed by a pampering Balinese wellness treatment overlooking the Ella mountain peaks. Other curated experiences include an artisanal tea experience, exploring the local markets with the chef, cycling through tea estates and exploring ancient rock-carved Buddhas at historic temples. A highlight for us is their conservation walk, Rewild the Hills, joining Uga’s naturalist to help document the area’s biodiversity, including a wonderful butterfly and dragonfly breeding initiative.
