Constance Belle Mare Plage, Mauritius

The east coast of Mauritius is known for its gin-clear waters, beautiful beaches and a blissfully unspoilt landscape. Constance Belle Mare Plage can boast one of the best spots on this prime slice of coastline, fronting over a mile of cotton-white sands and a topaz-blue lagoon.

Designed with its natural surroundings in mind, thatched low-rise buildings are hidden within its magnificent tropical gardens which patchwork the resort, the lime-tinged palms gently swaying in the ocean breeze.

The accommodation is luxuriously comfortable and kitted out with state-of-the-art facilities. Whether you're a couple or a family there's plenty for you to do here, from a round of golf to a plethora of water sports and the fantastic Constance Kids' Club.

Highlights

Constance Belle Mare Plage

Sleep

The incredible setting of Constance Belle Mare Plage is boosted by the sheer variety of accommodation the resort offers. The stylish Prestige Rooms, Junior Suites and two or three-bedroom villas are all set among stunning surroundings, whether you find yourself just steps from the beach or among sweet-smelling frangipani and coconut groves.

Each room, suite and villa is designed with wood and marble and elegantly decorated in cool and contemporary colours. The Prestige Rooms all come with their own balcony and have the added convenience of being close to the resort's main facilities. Some face the beach and lagoon beyond.

The suites (either Junior or Deluxe) look out onto the beach or the ocean with their own private balcony or terrace. Each is all fitted with a huge bath and spacious walk-in shower - perfect for a decadent soak, while Deluxe Suites enjoy a separate living room for even more space.

The large Pool Villas are set across two floors, either nestled within the tropical gardens or looking out onto the beach. You have your own private heated pool, while a personal butler is on hand to tend to your every need.

If money is no object, the five-bedroom Presidential Villa has not one, but two private pools, with a pair of terraces and is completely encased by exotic plants to ensure the ultimate in privacy.

Eat

With seven restaurants and six bars, you won't go hungry (or thirsty) at Constance Belle Mare Plage. La Citronelle is the resort's main restaurant with a daily changing buffet and live cooking stations meaning you can see the world on a plate cooked right in front of you. Indigo is ideal for seaside dining, where you can indulge in anything from wood-fired pizza to Southeast Asian delicacies. If you've just played a round of golf on the Legend course, or you just simply want to have dinner in a different surrounding, Deer Hunter offers traditional Mauritian cuisine with a fine-dining twist. For something truly unique, Blue Penny Cellar is a restaurant house within a wine cellar, where you'll be surrounded by 40,000 bottles of wine from more than 2,500 wineries around the world.

There are plenty of places for a drink and a snack in-between meals should you fancy one, or for a sunset cocktail to sign off the day in style. You can pair everything from rum-infused coffee to signature cocktails with idyllic ocean views at Blu Bar, while Le Swing has prime island views over northern Mauritius at the Links golf course. Many of the restaurants have their own bars, too, should you wish to stay a little longer into the night!

Play

There's no end to the activities you can enjoy at Constance Belle Mare Plage. Four swimming pools (including one that's heated) are dotted around the resort, while the resort's boathouse offers a staggering range of complimentary water sports, including kayaking, windsurfing, Hobie Cat sailing and glass-bottom boat trips. There's also a dive centre for those who'd like to get closer to the stunning marine life which surrounds the resort.

On land, there's four tennis courts, nine-hole mini golf, French bowls and table tennis. Golf lovers can play a round at the resort's two golf courses, Legend and Links, and green fees on both courses are complimentary during your stay.

If you want something a little less energetic, the resort's U Spa is in its own tranquil space well away from the main facilities. Its fine range of treatments, massages and facials all use natural ingredients inspired by the plants of the Indian Ocean.

Families will love the Constance Kids' Club, where little ones aged 4-11 can channel their sense of adventure. Literally anything goes here: your children could be heading out on an exciting treasure hunt one minute and making delicious pizzas the next. And that's just one afternoon! Youngsters also have their own swimming pool, as well as a soft play area, imagination spaces filled with toys and costumes and outdoor grounds for youngsters to run free in the fresh air.

Golf

Guests at Constance Belle Mare Plage can enjoy access to the resort's two 18-hole championship golf courses: Legend and Links. Green fees, shuttle transfers and weekly golf initiation lessons on both courses are complimentary for all guests. The standard of the courses is excellent and come dusk, when you're chilling in the clubhouse with a drink after your round, you might spot wandering Java deer.
