Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort, Saint Lucia

Encased by the majestic Pitons on one side and lush tropical rainforest on the other, Sugar Beach boasts a prime location on the west coast of Saint Lucia. If you are looking for a tranquil Caribbean idyll it doesn't get much better than this.

Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort

96 rooms and villas tumble down a hillside to a glorious white beach, washed by waters of the palest turquoise. The delightful styling is evocative of the colonial era with contemporary touches, whilst facilities are state of the art. Think white washed walls, timbers and louvered shutters, giving tantalising glimpses of the bright, sunlit vista beyond. All offer a private plunge pool, vast four poster beds and terraces with patio furniture and garden or ocean views. Every room comes with an iPad and complimentary Wi-Fi, plus a selection of items from the mini bar are also complimentary. For more space plump for a Cottage or Villa or for the quintessential beach experience choose one of the Luxury Beach Front Bungalows offering a full frontal beach panorama, outdoor bathrooms and romantic Jacuzzi baths. Every guest enjoys the attentions of a personal butler so you don't have to lift a finger from the time to you arrive until the time comes to tear yourself away!

Dining options include the elegant Great Room, a beautiful space which makes you want to dress for dinner and The Bayside, a more relaxed affair on the beach, perfect for long lazy lunches and warm Saint Lucian nights under the stars. The Cane Bar is a great spot for a cocktail or two and at dinner time they serve an Asian-inspired menu. The Terrace restaurant overlooks the lily pond and is the place to start your day with a hearty breakfast!  For a delicious daytime snack and refreshing juice, head to The Pier Bar on Glenconner Beach and relax in the peaceful surroundings.

Unsurprisingly there is a superb array of watersports on offer befitting the beautiful coastline. Water kayaks, paddleboards, Schiller water bikes and windsurfers are all on hand and for those who want to explore beneath the waves, the snorkelling and diving is excellent. A National Marine Reserve stretches the length of Sugar Beach and the marine life is breathtaking unspoilt. The location of the resort is also perfect for hiking in the Pitons and zip line adventures.

For a more relaxing interlude head to the naturally beautiful Rainforest Spa. 7 tree-house style treatment rooms are set on walkways along the hillside and the pampering treats make full use of Saint Lucia's natural bounty. Expect lashings of aloe vera, coconut, cocoa butter and banana!

The Sugar Club is complimentary for children aged between 4 and 12 years old offering supervised, fun and educational activities! Enjoy games on the beach, treasure hunts, arts and crafts, archery, coconut bowling and much more Caribbean fun!

For older children, the Junior Sailing Club offers first time sailors aged 10+ the chance to learn the basics of sailing. They will cover everything from rigiing, basic boat handling and seamanship, capsize recovery and rules of the waves. Taught using the resort's fleet of 3.5m Laser Pico sailboats, over the course of the 5-6 day programme they will explore the protected area of Anse des Pitons.
