Fairmont Hamilton Princess & Beach Club

The Fairmont Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, or as she is affectionately called locally, The Princess or the Pink Palace, has sat in her central location in Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda, since 1885. In fact, The Princess is the oldest property in the Fairmont family of hotels and resorts – she’s lost none of her sparkle thanks to local Billionaire investment. The hotel is constantly evolving with recent additions including a 60-berth marina and water sports centre, and a fabulous beach club nestled on Sinky Bay, a private cove on South Beach. The outside marina wall is reserved for superyachts and many of the world’s finest add glamour, not that the hotel needs it!

A rare triumph, Hamilton Princess mixes business with pleasure like a good gin and tonic. With her central location and fabulous facilities, she attracts a business crowd for a drink after work from Bermuda’s famous re-insurance market or the team from Bacardi HQ just down the road, along with conference retreats. The blend seems to work perfectly. The whole place has a buzz unlike anywhere else on the island.

Eat

The Princess’s latest development is Intrepid which locals and tourists alike rate as the best restaurant on the island. Named after Sir William Stephenson, a British intelligence agent – code name Intrepid – who was stationed at The Princess during the second world war and ran the Atlantic censorship station from the hotel. Stephenson was a good friend of Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond, and when ask about Stephenson he remarked he was the real deal, and many believe Bond was modelled on him.

The 007 cocktails in Intrepid pay tribute to Bond, Fleming and Stephenson. But go slow – they have more buck than Bond’s trusty Walther PPK pistol.

Sleep

Wake up to harbour views in the hotel’s recently freshened rooms and suites. Modern furnishings with local artwork and fabrics displaying island notes all make the streamlined interiors a comfortable haven. Pamper & Play

A larger hotel, but never impersonal, the owner’s impressive modern art collection brings a sense of fun and style to Hamilton Princess – look out for artwork by Damien Hirst, Banksy, and Andy Warhol, lining the corridors and passageways. Alternatively, art tours are available weekly. You’ll also find two perfectly placed pools, one for adults only, tennis courts, a new spa and fitness centre with a state-of-the-art gym, scheduled and private classes and a yoga pavilion next to the pool at this sought-after hotel.

On its doorstep there’s an array of celebrated restaurants, bars, shops, and attractions. Or looking for a relaxing afternoon at the beach? Put your feet up with a cocktail in hand at Hamilton Princess’ private beach club on Sinky Bay. Here you’ll find KS Water Sports offering an assortment of water activities from snorkelling to jet skiing.
