- The Atlantis Hotel, Barbados
The Atlantis Hotel, Barbados
Located on the island’s less developed and scenically beautiful east coast, the Atlantis Hotel is one of Barbados’ oldest original hotels dating back to the 19th century when the island’s railway dropped off its passengers at its doorstep in Tent Bay for a ‘seaside’ holiday. After falling into disrepair, Andrew and Patricia Warden acquired the property and immaculately restored the building to its former splendour with an appealing unpretentious luxury.
The Atlantis Hotel
With just 10 rooms and suites and a fabulous and already sought after restaurant smack bang on the Atlantic ocean, Atlantis is an ideal escape as an add on for a few nights after visiting the busier West Coast. All stylishly appointed bedrooms feature authentic décor including paintwork in muted shades with splashes of coloured fabrics and lots of wood create a feeling of fabulously laid-back Caribbean! The two bedroom cottages offer stunning, ocean views from the patios as well as most windows. Ideal for families, friends or couples travelling together, the cottages are equipped with a full kitchen, dining and living area.
The restaurant at The Atlantis Hotel is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner with the exception of Sunday nights. Their famous, West Indian Buffet Lunch is offered every Sunday and is very popular with locals and visitors alike. The menu is varied and offers authentic Bajan and Caribbean cuisine using fresh, local ingredients. Guests staying 3 nights or more will enjoy complimentary Half Board for the duration of their stay.
The east coastline of the island is on the Atlantic Ocean, providing quite a contrast to the Caribbean coastline on the west. With dramatic cliffs, long stretches of sand and often epic waves, the rugged east coast is a magnet for surfers, but its abundance of rock pools make it a favourite with families too. Enjoy nature walks along the old railway track, hike through the clay hills, surf the world class break at Soup Bowl or explore the nearby botanical gardens.
