- Heritage Line Anouvong, Upper Mekong Cruise
Heritage Line Anouvong
Life on the upper Mekong is the antithesis from its bustling southern banks in the Mekong Delta. Running through Northern Laos, this section of the river slowly meanders through the captivating landscape of Laos from the Thai border through to the charming town of Luang Prabang. Local life here has remained unchanged for centuries and a journey by boat offers authentic encounters with the local villages that can’t be accessed by road. You’ll cruise through ever changing, jungle clad mountainous scenery, past small villages, seeing fishermen casting giant nets and stop off at small ethnic minority hamlets. Until now, small local boats have offered adventurous travellers a captivating two-day journey with an overnight at Pakbeng enroute, a journey we recommend and can arrange for our guests. However, for those seeking an upgrade on comfort and a more leisurely pace, Heritage Line Anouvong offers a three night live aboard journey on a small boutique ship, an exclusive vessel to discover this remote corner of Laos in luxury.
Heritage Line Anouvong
Designed with traditional Laotian ambiance and artwork with French-Colonial finesse, just 20 guests, in 10 individual suites will share this incredible journey. Deluxe Rooms, on the main deck feature a bedroom and seating area with large, sliding doors which open to a French balcony and a separate ensuite bathroom completed the room. Deluxe Executive Suites are equally stylish and located on the upper deck. Larger Signature Suites sit at the bow and are individually adorned with local artwork and brass handiwork. They have a table set up for in-room dining, a jacuzzi and their very own private balcony. The intimate restaurant, on board spa, and cozy café-bar and lounge with its adjacent wooden deck all add to the laid back romance of this impressive ship. Once on board you’ll enjoy delicious cuisine, all prepared using fresh local ingredients, from live cooking stations. Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Every night the ship moors up at a sandbank for an aperitif or cocktail event or even a barbecue in the middle of nowhere.
A typical three-night journey will start from the border of Thailand at Huay Xai, meandering through lush green landscapes, guests will learn about traditional weaving methods, learn how the locals farm the land, kayak downstream and learn about elephants at one of the Golden triangle’s most sustainable sanctuaries. On approaching Luang Prabang you’ll trek through the jungle to the famous Pak Ou caves, known for their 4,000 sacred Buddhist statues.
Annouvong also offer a seven-night journey, continuing from Luang Prabang to Vientiane through the unspoilt Laos countryside.
