Canvas & Orchids Retreat, Cambodia
There are very few locations which can match the panoramic splendour of the picturesque Castlereagh Valley, in Sri Lanka’s luscious Hill Country. Perched on an elevated mountainside, is the boutique and intimate five-bedroom Camellia Hills hotel, which has just recently opened it’s doors. Boasting the most mesmerising views overlooking the vast expanse of the Castlereagh reservoir below and hugged by five kilometres of emerald tea plantations, this truly is a wonderful setting to discover the majestic hill region. The beautiful open-air living spaces and contemporary yet cosy decor truly enhances the tranquil setting. If you are looking for a place to completely escape and unwind - this will be your own little oasis.
Canvas & Orchids Retreat
Tucked away in seclusion on the Tatai River, twelve luxurious and spacious en-suite tents are located either on the river bank or on specially made floating platforms. With lush carpets and large ventilated windows, each tent comes fully equipped with modern amenities and air-conditioning. From toothbrushes to a clever wastewater treatment system, each is carefully designed with the aim of protecting the environment and sustaining the region’s natural resources. At the heart of the lodge is a central area with a restaurant and library.
There is plenty to fill your days here, including boat trips to the impressive Tatai Waterfalls as well as remote fishing communities, kayaking on the river and trekking through the jungle to remote waterfalls. On your return to camp pamper yourself with a hot bath, catch up on your favourite movie on DVD; take a refreshing dip in the Tatai river; and as the day draws to a close, lounge on your private balcony with a drink from the mini bar as you watch the glorious sunset.
We’d suggest at least three nights here as it is quite a drive from either Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville, alternatively you can fly from Bangkok into Trat and drive over the boarder from Thailand (this is the shortest journey).
