Chitwa Chitwa, South Africa
Wonderfully located in the northern region of the world famous Sabi Sands, overlooking the largest lake in the reserve, this stunning safari lodge was originally a private retreat for the Brink family. A labour of love for Charl Brink, he affectionately so-named it after an ageing giraffe bull who watched over this lakeside home as if it were his own! The giraffe's arrival was always signalled by the creaking of his old joints! A fitting tribute to this beloved extended member of the Brink family, Chitwa Chitwa blends seamlessly into the surrounding beauty of the unspoiled bush of the Sabi Sands. The lodge is an eclectic blend of European style with African chic - an exquisite balance between bush luxury and environmental harmony. What's more, the classic African sundowner experience has taken on a whole new meaning here! Charl and his son Matthew have transformed one of their old safari vehicles into Africa's very first safari lantern-lit pizza truck! As the sun slips below the horizon, Chitwa Chitwa guests are not only treated to a relaxing drink but also a slice of freshly cooked pizza! African 'happy hour' has never tasted so good! Maria Brink has also added her personal touch to the lodge with her display of original and bold contemporary art pieces and sculptures.
Chitwa Chitwa's distinctive charm is translated into the detailed finishings of the accommodation. Each of the six stylish luxury suites opens onto a private timber deck with a plunge pool and views over the lake - a popular drinking waterhole for Chitwa's wealth of wildlife! Each suite is spacious enough to accommodate up to two extra beds for children under the age of 12 years only. In addition, the Charlsy Suite is perfect for families or friends travelling together. It comprises two inter-leading ensuite rooms joined by a relaxing living area. It also has a swimming pool and fabulous lake view deck. All the suites have a bath, indoor and outdoor shower, a fireplace, minbar and a fan.
Chitwa House offers the ultimate privare safari experience! It has two beautifully appointed ensuite rooms with private decks and outdoor showers as well as a spacious lounge and dining area and a lakeview deck with a swimming pool. Guests at Chitwa House also enjoy the privilege of their own private safari vehicle with a guide and tracker. Delicious meals are prepared in the privacy of the house and are either served by the dedicated team or by a private chef. Drinks can be enjoyed from the fully stocked minibar!
Chitwa Chitwa is highly acclaimed for its superlative game viewing! Guests undoubtedly enjoy one of the best opportunities in the Sabi Sands to meet Africa's Big Five - buffalo, elephant, rhino, leopard and lion, not only when out on game drives - but also from the main lounge and dining areas which overlook the lake where animals regularly congregate at the water's edge in the mornings and the evenings. Spacious viewing decks strewn with comfy daybeds and a rim-flow swimming pool enhance this magical ambience which truly encapsulates the sights, scents and sounds of Africa. Typically, morning game drives depart around 5.30am, returning just before 9am for breakfast. Evening safari and sundowners set off at 4.30pm, getting back to camp for aperitifs and dinner at 8pm. The time in between can be spent relaxing in your suite, joining a bush walk or indulging in a pampering treatment at the Spa. Chitwa also has a gym. Guests can also join a guided village tour at the nearby Dixie community - a small village in the Sabi Sands reserve with whom Chitwa has cultivated a unique partnership (the journey here in a Chitwa Chitwa open vehicle takes about two hours).
Children of all ages are very welomce but note that children under 6 years are not allowed on game drives unless parents have sole use of the vehicle.
