This stunning boutique five-bedroomed villa-style retreat is wonderfully located close to Vilanculos, on the sweeping white sandy shores of the Bazaruto archipelago in southern Mozambique. The architecture is a fusion of contemporary style and traditional Mozambican influences. Delicately nestled within the white sand dunes, it blends seamlessly with the surrounding natural setting. The vision of Sarah and Mike von Hone, Saudade is a celebration of Mozambique’s rich cultural heritage. They worked closely with skilled local artisans throughout the creation process, taking care to use only locally sourced materials, including timber and thatch, wherever possible. Mike spent childhood family holidays in the neighbouring three bedroomed Villa Coco, owned by his father, and his deep, personal connection with the Mozambique landscape has influenced every aspect of Saudade’s style.

Sarah is an accomplished creative designer and together, they have infused Saudade with a unique aesthetic that is deeply rooted in its setting. Saudade can also be booked on an exclusive use basis (in which case, a sixth suite specifically designed for children/teenagers, is also included). Saudade is a Portuguese word, best described as a feeling of nostalgia – a longing to return to a place or relive an experience that once was.
