Indulge in the isolation at Ol Lentille

Ol Lentille, Kenya

Set on the flanks of a wooded rock kopje (small hill) in Kenya’s northern Laikipia region, Ol Lentille is a collection of four spectacular fully-serviced private villas with panoramic views from every angle. Pure ‘Out of Africa’ in style, Ol Lentille offers wow factor, privacy and exclusivity in abundance and not surprisingly, it is also the recipient of numerous accolades, including most recently - Andrew Harper's Reader's Choice Award for Sixth Best Safari Lodge in the World. This is a place to re-charge and relax in your 'Own Place in the African Wilderness'! It is the perfect combination with a stay in the Masai Mara - enjoy the excitement of a safari and then come here to Ol Lentille to slow down and truly appreciate the space and isolation of this incredible location. Enjoy unlimited spa treatments, game drives at a time to suit you in a private vehicle, authentic cultural experiences and walking safaris guided by Samburu and Maasai warriors - a very special journey into their ancient lands. What's more, getting to Ol Lentille is all part of the adventure! Fly from Nairobi's domestic Wilson airport to the airstrips at either Nanyuki or Loisaba where an Ol Lentille driver guide will be waiting to introduce you to this breathtaking landscape on an exhilarating 2 hour 4WD journey. Or blow the budget and fly directly to Ol Lentille's airstrip which is only a short 15 minute drive way.

Ol Lentille has such an interesting story behind it. Here, you can see first-hand the positive effects of tourism on conservation, in partnership with the local communities. John and Gill, the British investors behind this pioneering conservation initiative, have created a 40,000 acre conservancy which has successfully brought the wildlife back to this unique land of grassy hills and deep valleys, heavily wooded with acacia and African olive trees. In a gesture of true generosity, they donated the lodge to the community but continue to manage everything alongside the local Maasai and Samburu – a ground-breaking example of how private partnerships with the local Maasai community can work successfully in Kenya. Tourism here has funded schools, a hospital and water sanitation projects. This is, without doubt, a very special conservation initiative. Ol Lentille opened in 2007 as Laikipia's first lodge with private villas and so 2017 marks their landmark 10th anniversary - what better time to visit! Ten years ago, they set out with the vision to be 'different' and they really have achieved that! Not only is Ol lentille an amazing example of sustainable tourism and community partnership, it is also an exceptional example of world class architecture, interior design and authenticity!

Ol Lentille

The four private villas, known as The Eyrie (a romantic bolthole with one gorgeous circular bedroom and a sunken bath in the rocks - perfect for couples and honeymooners), The Sultan’s House (another gorgeous one bedroom retreat with an essence of Zanzibar and the Swahili Coast), The Colonel’s House (a two bedroomed villa with lots of 'Out of Africa' charm spread over two floors) and The Chief’s House (the largest of the villas with three bedrooms and an African minimalist design with wonderful art and cool modern interiors). Ol Lentille is ideally set up for families, groups of friends, honeymooners and couples seeking absolute privacy and a chance to completely relax and rejuvenate. Each of the houses can be booked individually or a large family or group can take the whole property exclusively.

Ol Lentille is renowned for its excellent cuisine and you will have the opportunity to dine in numerous stunning locations throughout your stay. You eat what you want when you want and what's more, all meals, house wines, local brand spirits and beer and soft drinks are included in your stay. You will enjoy private dining experiences from start to finish to ensure maximum exclusivity! Kenya really doesn't get better than this!

Very importantly, your stay at Ol Lentille is designed to be restful. You won't be woken at 6am for a game drive (unless you want to be!). Instead, you will enjoy a full night's sleep and wake to a private breakfast in your villa arranged for a time to suit you. The day is yours to do as much or as little as you wish! This is Kenyan hospitality at its absolute best!

The experience here is a very personal one, coupled with an opportunity to see Africa's wildlife and gain an insight into authentic Maasai and Samburu culture. There is a huge amount to do here, over and above the wildlife! The conservancy is home to the endangered African wild dog, the greater kudu, leopard, striped and spotted hyena and the lesser known klipspringer antelope. Elephant numbers have also really grown in recent years. Activities include day and night game drives, walking safaris, camel trekking, horse riding (additional cost), mountain and quad biking, bush meals in stunning locations and a chance to gain an insight into Maasai and Sumburu culture - all this combined with unlimited spa treatments - a format designed to ensure that you leave refreshed, recharged and revitalised!

For an insight into daily life, there are 3 'singing wells' within 15 minutes drive of the lodge. Singing Wells are just part of local life in Laikipia! The local Samburu and Maasai warriors bring their cattle, goats and donkeys daily to nearby wells where they literally spend hours 'singing' whilst providing their animals with water. Getting this close to the local traditions, is a special and incredibly authentic experience.

Ol Lentille also has a library with an open-air viewing deck, a Spa and a spectacular infinity swimming pool!
