Tucked away in St Vincent & The Grenadines, Bequia is one of those rare Caribbean islands that still feels wonderfully undiscovered. Just nine square miles in size and home to around 5,000 residents, it’s laidback, unspoilt and full of old-school Caribbean charm. Think colourful fishing boats, empty beaches, beach bars with reggae drifting through the speakers and locals who greet you like they’ve known you for years. And right on the sands of Friendship Bay sits Bequia Beach Hotel.

Why we love it

Bequia Beach Hotel has perfected barefoot luxury without ever feeling flashy. With just 58 rooms and suites, it’s intimate, easy-going and wonderfully relaxed. The Classic Rooms are comfortable and great value, but if you can, upgrade. The Junior Suites offer far more space to unwind, while the Beachfront Suites are the real sweet spot, just steps from the sand with uninterrupted sea views and sunrises worth setting the alarm for. Days here revolve around long breakfasts, lazy swims and sunset cocktails with your toes still sandy from the beach.

Dining by the sea

Bagatelle, the hotel’s beachfront restaurant, is the heart of the hotel, serving everything from fresh seafood lunches to candlelit dinners by the water. There’s also Blue Tropic for seasonal Italian-Caribbean dining, The Sand Bar for relaxed drinks and light bites and, our personal favourite, Jack’s Beach Bar on nearby Princess Margaret Beach. This is classic Caribbean beach-bar perfection with grilled lobster, rum punch and brilliant turquoise water stretching out in front of you.

Villas and adults-only escapes

For families or groups, the Grenadine Hills villas offer exclusive-use stays just along Friendship Bay, combining privacy with access to the hotel facilities. Meanwhile, Rock Villa is a gorgeous adults-only option with just six suites, shared pool and gym facilities, butler service and an atmosphere that feels more like a stylish private home than a hotel.

Getting there

Part of Bequia’s appeal is that it still feels slightly off-grid, but getting there is easier than you might think. The simplest route is via Barbados, connecting onto a short SVG Air flight directly to Bequia, followed by a five-minute transfer to the hotel. Virgin Atlantic also flies into St Vincent three times a week, with ferry and boat connections across to Bequia. And from October 2026, there’s an even more scenic option.

Meet Sandy Toes

Bequia Beach Hotel has introduced Sandy Toes, a new catamaran transfer for guests arriving on the late Virgin Atlantic flight into St Vincent. Instead of rushing for ferries, you’ll sail across to Bequia at sunset with a rum punch in hand before arriving at the hotel just minutes later. Not a bad way to start a Caribbean holiday. The catamaran will also be used for snorkelling trips and island-hopping adventures to nearby spots like Mustique and the Tobago Cays.

Who it’s perfect for

Bequia Beach Hotel is for travellers looking for a slower, more authentic Caribbean experience. For honeymooners who want romance without pretence. Families wanting space to reconnect. Couples craving somewhere genuinely relaxed. It’s the sort of place people quietly recommend to friends, then return to year after year themselves.
