If you’re looking for understated luxury in Crete… somewhere peaceful, stylish and genuinely authentic,  Minos Beach Art Hotel is one of those places that quietly gets everything right. Just 45 minutes from Heraklion Airport and a 15-minute walk into Agios Nikolaos, it feels calm and tucked away, while still giving you tavernas, coffee shops and harbour-front evenings within easy reach.

What’s the atmosphere like?

Low-key, relaxed and beautifully unpretentious. Although the hotel has 125 rooms, they’re spread throughout gardens and along the waterfront, so it never feels busy or resort heavy. Most rooms are single storey too, which makes everything feel more private and peaceful.

“It felt refined without trying too hard — exactly the kind of luxury I love.”

Who is Minos Beach Art Hotel best for?

Couples will love the romantic waterfront setting, but families were equally well looked after despite there being no kids’ club. It also suits solo travellers or anyone wanting a quieter stay with the freedom to explore Crete beyond the hotel.

This is not a loud, all-inclusive resort atmosphere. It’s much more about simplicity, space and slowing down.

Are the rooms nice?

There are 15 different room types, ranging from garden bungalows to waterfront suites and larger family villas. The design is consistent throughout, super calm, contemporary yet authentic, with the main differences being location, size and whether you want a private pool or not. The seafront bungalows were my favourites.

Does Minos Beach Art Hotel have a beach?

At Minos Beach Art Hotel, the beach offering is intimate rather than expansive, with two small sandy coves that feel peaceful and private. While it’s not the place for a long sweeping beachfront, there’s still a lovely spot to swim, relax and soak up the sea views right on the doorstep.

What’s the food like?

Honestly, excellent. La Bouillabaisse, the waterfront fine dining restaurant, was a standout for dinner, while Terpsis was perfect for relaxed Cretan-style lunches and meze sharing. There’s also a traditional Greek kafenion with live music evenings which gives the hotel a real sense of place.

What makes this hotel so special?

The people. The staff were genuinely warm, happy and welcoming throughout my stay. The hotel had just been voted the second-best place to work in Greece across all industries, which completely made sense once I experienced the service. If you want flashy luxury and endless entertainment, this probably isn’t for you. But if you want thoughtful hospitality, fantastic food, sea views and a calmer side of Crete, Minos Beach Art Hotel is incredibly easy to love.
