Rachel Gleave, our Asia Product Manager has recently returned from a visit to Thailand, where she stayed in one of Turquoise’s favourite accommodations – The Sarojin Hotel & Resort! Having explored all it has to offer, she’s now sharing her review of The Sarojin’s top features, dive in to learn more.
The Sarojin Hotel & Resort in Khao Lak, Thailand is such a special place that its hard to put into words the feeling you have when you are there – for me it is a peaceful sanctuary, away from the busy areas of Thailand. As soon as you enter you are immediately enveloped in a sense of peace and serenity that is truly unparalleled.
What Makes The Sarojin Hotel & Resort Special
Owners Andrew and Kate Kemp chose the land for its seclusion on a beautiful unspoiled stretch of white sand beach – their vision was to create a space that felt like visiting a friend in a country retreat with serene open spaces, beautiful gardens, top class food and impeccable personalised service. The staff are key here, many who have been here since its conception 20 years ago, which says a lot about the way Andrew and Kate have created a wonderfully friendly team who greet you as family.
As soon as you walk through the lobby you are faced with idyllic gardens and lily ponds – not a building in sight. The luxury here is this sense of space and nature with the low-rise accommodation buildings cleverly hidden down the side of the grounds and hidden by foliage.
The rooms are thoughtfully designed, understated but with every luxury considered – we love the open-plan bathrooms, which give a sense of being in a garden. For an extra touch of indulgence, consider upgrading to the impressive Jacuzzi Pool Suites. These suites feature beautifully furnished living rooms and spacious outdoor terraces, complete with heated outdoor whirlpools, offering the ultimate in relaxation and luxury.
The Sarojin Hotel’s Menu & Dining Experience
One of the highlights is the breakfast, which can be enjoyed any time of the day, so there is no rushing to wake early….. you are on holiday after all! When you are ready, a menu of delicious and tapas style breakfast dishes are on the menu, with unlimited choice, complete with pastries and fruits, all accompanied by champagne of course!! As you can imagine the lunch and dinner offering is outstanding, with a wide choice of fine wines to complement the Michelin standard of delicious dishes. All dietary requirements are also considered with a wide choice of vegan and plan based dishes, along with delectable Thai and European choices.
The second highlight for me, and probably biggest highlight is the sublime pool, one of the most iconic in Thailand and the three resplendent floating pavilions are the perfect romantic space. Hidden in the lush tropical gardens, this huge pool is a sanctuary to cool off from the heat of the day with a cold drink. What’s more, this is an adult only retreat, with children only over the age of ten welcomed to preserve tranquility.
Khao Sok National Park & Other Excursions
Excursions are all individually crafted and private to ensure the guests make the best of their stay in this beautiful unspoilt corner of Thailand. The nearby Khao Sok National Park is great for excursions and one of my favorite places in Thailand for its stunning limestone karst scenery and jungle clad landscapes is close enough to visit for a day trip, as is local ethical Phang Nga elephant camp and the nearby Similan Islands, which have some of the best spots for snorkeling in this area. The beach is long wide and pristine, apart from a small local resort that’s completely hidden, you’ll be able to walk for miles without seeing anything but a little local shack, a perfect pit stop for a cool beer or cheap bowl of delicious Phad Thai.
On paper (or website) The Sarojin Hotel & Resort in Khao Lak, Thailand may not have the obvious bells and whistles that some other polished five-star resorts have in this region, but it’s a sanctuary that’s perfect in its simplicity – the service is personal, professional and I’d urge anyone visiting Thailand to stay here. It is unlike anywhere else and is simply unique.
