Need to restore your mind, body and soul on a faraway private desert island? Then we could have the perfect answer! Pristine Vamizi Island, off the coast of Northern Mozambique in the Quirimbas Archipelago, is offering a six day health and wellness escape from 11th – 17th November 2012 (with another scheduled for 20th – 26th January 2013). Hosted by renowned yoga, health and fitness instructor, Claire Finlay, you will receive a one-to-one consultation on arrival, with the aim of ensuring that you leave feeling completely rejuvenated! Switch off and slip into Robinson Crusoe mode – practice vinyasa yoga on the shoreline, followed by a freshly prepared juice or smoothie from the island’s “natural pharmacy” before embarking on an exhilarating open water dive or big game-fishing trip. Alternatively, lie back and read your book whilst Samango monkeys play nearby or take a beachcombing walk with the island’s resident naturalist before indulging in Vamizi’s very own signature massage. This is exercise and nutrition as nature intended – the beach is your gymnasium and the ocean is your larder. Your time will be spent outside ‘at one with nature’ and this stunning hidden island gem will work its magic over the course of this quite extraordinary retreat. The Vamizi Island Wellness Retreats are supported by Wellicious, a “green and glamorous” brand of yoga, pilates and loungewear (Vamizi guests receive a 10% discount off the collection).

The very essence of castaway island chic, Vamizi Island is a true escapist retreat. It boasts all the essential ingredients of a desert island paradise – powder soft white sand beaches lapped by turquoise waters, an interior of unspoiled natural wilderness, virgin reefs and abundant marine life. It is a real remote treasure island, yet easier to reach than you might think. You will take a scenic charter flight direct to the island’s airstrip from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Once landed, you’ll either be whisked away by speedboat or join an open 4×4 landrover for the bumpy but steady 40 minute ride to your island sanctuary – Vamizi Island Lodge – which is gloriously positioned along one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Don’t expect five star luxury or all mod cons – there are no TV’s or air-conditioning. Vamizi embraces the more rarified pleasures of exclusive island life. It is also the perfect island retreat to follow an African safari, so you could always combine your wellness escape with the exhilaration of a safari in Kenya’s world famous Masai Mara or Tanzania’s acclaimed Serengeti.

This six-day wellness retreat costs from £4635 per person (single occupancy) and includes a private one-to-one consultation with Claire Finlay, yoga, a deep sea fishing trip, a scuba diving trip, a treatment/massage, a guided conservation walk around the island, snorkelling and lagoon kayaking, accommodation in Vamizi’s exclusive Private Villas, all meals and drinks (excluding premium brands), return flight transfers to Vamizi (from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania) and return overnight international flights in economy class from the UK with BA to Dar es Salaam (via Nairobi on the way home). Note – the morning scheduled flight from Dar es Salaam to Vamizi departs at 09.05am (so requires an overnight flight from the UK which lands in Dar in the early morning). On the return, you will depart Vamizi at 3pm and land back in Dar at 5.30pm where you will join an evening flight from Dar to Nairobi to connect with the overnight BA flight back to London.
