If you’re looking to holiday in September, you’re making a great choice. Across the northern hemisphere, many children have gone back to school, but that just means many resorts will be clear of families and more open to couples or larger groups. Others may think it’s a bit too late for a summer holiday. How wrong they are – and how you can benefit, because this is actually a fantastic month to go on holiday. It’s also a good choice for honeymooners, because not only are you likely to get lovely just-beginning-of-fall weather for your wedding, you have a huge range of places to go that are in just the right season for a holiday.

Safaris are top for September, with both Botswana and Kenya in great position for a safari. Botswana’s Okavango Delta is flooding at this time, which is an incredible sight – especially if you travel around by canoe! – and can let you view a whole host of amazing animals. In Kenya, you’re just catching the tail end of the wildebeest migration, and it’s still very worth heading there during that time – the sights are still magnificent. Tanzania is a great option to add on for the beach or a safari.

Of course, this also means that a safari beach holiday is well within your grasp. Mauritius is a great pairing with either of these locations, and while it’s not quite summer in September, temperatures hover around 26 degrees with a very nice, pleasant climate, since you’re completely missing the rain of summer which strikes particularly between January and March.

If you’re looking for purely beach on your holiday, the South Pacific is in high season at this time. Fiji and Tahiti are some of the most gorgeous places in the entire world. They cost, but you get a lot for the price, and you are guaranteed to have an incredible time. These two systems of islands are stunning and perfect for ‘island hopping’, experiencing a few different places to liven up a holiday and prevent you from getting a bit bored of lying on the beach all day (it sounds impossible, but trust us, it happens!).

Australia is also excellent for September holidays. As we are getting out of summer, Australia is just emerging from winter, meaning the weather is getting really lovely, especially in the north of the country. The weather will be sunny, not too hot, and ideal for holidays in Queensland, the Northern Territory, and the north of Western Australia as well.

If it’s an Asian holiday you’re after, much of it is in rainy season at this point. Parts of Thailand in the Gulf Coast are still looking excellent, though, with dry, warm weather, and north and central Vietnam are also choice destinations at this time. Hoi An and Hanoi are both excellent at this time of year, with lovely beaches and many historical places to visit as well.
