Ever since my first solo backpacking trip to the ‘Land of Smiles’ six years ago, Thailand has secured a special place in my travel portfolio. Every time I visit, a different experience awaits me, and it is no surprise that it’s now one of our most popular Asia destinations here at Turquoise. While one of the massive draws of this beautiful country are the stunning beaches, on our most recent Turquoise trip we quickly found out that there is so much more to this country than rest and relaxation.

Worldly – The Country that Never Sleeps

We started our journey in Bangkok, a bustling metropolis where the western world and Asia meet, creating a unique blend of experiences all in one place. While the Grand Palace and Wat Pho are often on the tourist hit list when exploring the capital, why not dress up and head out to dine and drink at one of Bangkok’s most breath-taking vantage points? The rooftop Moon Bar at the Banyan Tree Bangkok, allows guests to view the city in a completely different way, and it the perfect beginning or end to your Thailand holiday.

Heading south, there is also the opportunity to witness and partake in local life more closely. Koh Samui is a great choice for couples and families alike, who are looking to visit Thailand during the summer months. For those looking for a tranquil, boutique escape, Zazen offers an award winning restaurant and is just 15 minutes on foot to the charming fisherman’s village of Bo Phut.

Families will love the Melati, with spacious pool villas and a regular morning monk procession, where children can get involved with this ancient Buddhist practice.

Wet – Exploring Thailand beyond the beach

While relaxing on the beach or by the pool is always a highlight of any holiday, you’re seriously missing out if you don’t experience Thailand away from shore. Snorkelling is an absolute must, and your hotel will often know the best coral sites to visit.

Six Senses Yao Noi is perfectly positioned for a more varied overwater experience, with trips to the famous Phang Nga Bay and traditional floating villages among some of the most popular excursions. If you’re feeling really active, why not kayak, and allow a local, knowledgeable guide to show you corners of the coast that you’d never normally see.

Wild – Get in touch with your inner Tarzan

No holiday to Thailand is complete without a journey into the jungle, and Elephant Hills ticks all of those boxes. This luxury tented camp allows guests to experience the natural beauty of rural Thailand, while having somewhere comfortable to lay their heads at night. With one and two night packages available, you will spend your time spotting wildlife and trekking through the natural landscape, and spending time with the resident retired logging Elephants, where you will feed and bathe these beautiful creatures in a cruelty free environment.

If availability permits, I would recommend also spending a night at the floating Lake Camp. This is such a unique experience, where you will wake up to the call of monkeys from miles around. It’s a real wow!

Whatever you choose to get up to during your Thailand trip with Turquoise, there is so much more to this amazing land than just beaches.
