We had the great pleasure of catching up with travel blogger Rebecca Sterling, who runs her fantastic Instagram account @rvk_loves and blog Roses and Rolltops, following her trip to California earlier this year, as part of a gifted press stay with us at Hotel del Coronado! If a road trip to California is on your bucket list, get ready to be inspired by Rebecca!

Where is del Coronado located?

It’s right on the beach in San Diego. Coronado beach has been voted as being one of America’s best beaches and it’s not hard to see why. Scattered with palm trees, dunes and soft sand, you really don’t get much better than this. You can rent day beds and half-moon cabanettes for the day to chill out in true luxury or bikes to explore the island {and swoon over the amazing American grand houses and their patriotic flags or ogle at the city skyline from the waterfront park. It’s in a great location and you can wander to ice cream shops or bakeries within a few minutes. We adore this part of San Diego.

What is the vibe of the hotel like?

Huge! There really is something for everyone and you would never get bored. Whether you’re going for a beach chill-out, or to be active and use the hotel’s facilities but also get out and explore, Hotel del Coronado is the place for you.

There are three magnificent pools to pick from; be sure to rent a luxury cabana if chilling by the pool is your thing. We wish we could have had a day to do this, as it looked very relaxing to have a poolside lounge and fresh sliced fruit on tap!

When it comes to restaurants, the world really is your oyster here. Choose from seven restaurants with locally sourced ingredients, incredible chefs and beautiful ocean views. For breakfast, we tried out Sheerwater and the breakfast selection was unlike anywhere I have been before. Huge bowls of the freshest raspberries and strawberries – you can’t go wrong. Chia pudding is also a must-try there.

Is there a spa?

There is and just… wow! I had a pregnancy massage here and used some of the other the facilities, which I would highly recommend. It’s a coastal sanctuary where you’ll come out feeling totally relaxed. If you do get the chance to visit, try out the infinity pool overlooking the ocean, so you can soak up the Californian sunshine.

What about the rooms?

There are three buildings in the resort, consisting of rooms, suites and a beach village. We stayed in a room set in the old classic part of the main building looking out to sea. Try and request an ocean view room where you’ll wake up to the sound of the waves. Heaven!

Do you have any top tips?

If you can, try out a beach bonfire whilst watching the spectacular sunsets. It’s one of del’s favourite traditions, where fireside experience has gone gourmet! Here, you can tuck into s’mores (marshmallow and chocolate sandwiched between cookies) from an à la carte menu, along with other fireside favourites. You can’t leave California without doing this!
They also do a spin class and even though I didn’t give this a go, it’s certainly a unique must-do! Set on the oceanfront, the spin class is worth it just to burn all those s’mores off! And fish tacos are a must when in this part of California, so close to the Mexican border!
