Travel Trends for 2023

  1. Premium Bucket List Adventures

After enduring two years of recurring lockdowns and international restrictions on travel, research shows that travellers are looking to ‘travel big’ in 2023 and 2024. Beyond the beach fly-and-flop holiday, we are seeing couples and families looking at their bucket list of destinations and experiences, prioritizing one or two that they could turn from a far-flung dream, into a reality. Making up for lost time and the knowledge that none of us know what lie ahead, we are loving working on ticking off some amazingly unique bucket list experiences.

  1. Culture Shock

40% of UK travellers are looking to venture further from home in 2023 to seek out new experiences and adventures, immersing themselves into new cultures away from the everyday. However, despite most people looking for a seemingly ‘off-grid’ experience, 53% of these travellers have stipulated they’d still need their phone and stable internet connections at least for part of the trip, whether that’s to be able to check in at work, if need be, or share the experiences they are having whilst away, via social media platforms.

  1. Health is the new wealth

We are expecting the wellness trend to reach even higher heights in 2023 and that this will translate directly into people’s travel desires. We have moved well beyond yoga and meditation holidays, to hotels and retreats focusing on holistic and transformative health, whether that be based around diet, mental health or highly tailored therapies. Some guests are actively seeking out our wellness boltholes, whereas others want to know that wellness, exercise, and activities are part of the normal daily routine. We have seen an uplift in consideration into destinations where hiking, biking and trail running are options from where our guests are staying.

  1. Future Nostalgia

BEACH IN CRETE, GREECE

88% of UK travellers are looking for nostalgic getaways in 2023, which is a trend that has taken on two meanings. The first is those looking to re-connect with destinations which they visited as children or are familiar with through childhood literature or film. We are also seeing a big return to Europe and short-haul holidays throughout the year, to re-live the family holidays of old. The second is the sharp rise in multi-generational travel. Family reunions of those living apart from each other, away from the family home, in a villa or hotel where everyone can stay together, without anyone having to host! Villas within hotels are very popular, as they give families of all ages and sizes the facilities of staying in a hotel, with the communal space, privacy, and experience of villa holiday.

  1. Value for money

Whatever budget travellers are setting aside for their 2023 adventures, value for money is topping the trend charts, and quite rightly so. We are all becoming more mindful of our spending, especially when it comes to holidays. We are seeing more people travel outside of the ‘peak’ months, where rates can be almost 50% higher than those of shoulder season months. Others are cutting down on the number of short breaks they are booking, in favour of one or two longer trips, perhaps further afield, for a longer time, to ensure a proper break from the day to day. We are continually seeking out the best offers, discounts, and savings throughout the year, both from airline and hotel partners.

6. All Inclusive

When thinking about spending money on your holiday, we know many of our clients are interested in booking all-inclusive, as a no worries option. It is typical on an all inclusive holiday in many of our destinations to have all of your food and drink included. Some of the resorts, however, have extra inclusions such as complimentary daily activities or spa treatments. Most islands will also offer unlimited non-motorised water sports during your stay. Each island’s offering is unique so make sure you speak to our team of specialists about their favourite all inclusive destinations and which is the perfect one for you.
