Luxury Cambodia - Temples, Jungle & Beach
With the opening of new luxury island retreats, Cambodia has become a one stop shop for a fantastic luxury holiday with a heady mix of ancient temples, jungle retreats and idyllic island escapes. This suggested itinerary combines the magnificent temples of Angkor with one of Asia’s most impressive jungle camps, before relaxing on one of the island retreats in the south and ending in Phnom Penh.
Your Journey
Day 1 – Siem Reap, Phum Baitang
Fly overnight to Siem Reap via Bangkok, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur and on arrival you will be met and transferred to Zannier Phum Baitang, a unique resort located in the countryside just outside Siem Reap. Forty-five private villas are set in eight hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens and rice fields. This will be your base for four nights whilst exploring the nearby temples, however you’ll find it hard to leave this stunning place and will certainly want to build in some time to relax by the pool and indulge in the spa here.
Accommodation - 4 Nights
Day 2 – Kbal Spean, Banteay Srei
Over the next few days you’ll see the main temples as well as a few lesser known but equally as impressive ones as well as visiting the villages on the lake and even enjoying a cooking class amongst the temples.
Today you’ll start with a visit to Kbal Spean an intricately carved riverbed deep in the foothills of the Cambodian jungle. The river flows down to the Tonlé Sap lake, and in ancient times its holy waters breathed life into the rice fields of the empire via the most complex irrigation system the world had ever seen. The Khmers venerated its limestone bed with a riot of carvings, including the delicate deities Vishnu and Shiva with their consorts. The carvings were only rediscovered in 1969 when French researcher Jean Boulbet was shown the river by a local hermit. A trip to Kbal Spean is one of the easiest ways to experience a short jungle trek in the Angkor area, as it is a steady but scenic climb to reach the river carvings. The path winds its way through knotted vines and big boulder formations and occasionally offers big views over the surrounding jungle. And there is a small waterfall below the carved riverbed, perfect for cooling off after the hot climb. Then head to Banteay Srei, Angkor’s ultimate art gallery. This petite pink temple is the jewel in the crown of Angkor-era sculpture. The elaborate carvings here are the finest found in Cambodia and the name translates as ‘Fortress of the Women’, thanks to the intricate detail here, considered too fine for the hands of a man. Head back to your hotel for the rest of the afternoon or this would be a chance to see the war museum.
Day 3 – Cooking Class at Sala Rolous & Kompong Pluk
This morning head to an area of temples called Rolous, a little further away from the main Angkor temples, this impressive collection of some of the oldest temples of the region are just as striking as the rest but with a fraction of the crowds; in fact when walking amongst the temples we almost had them to ourselves and couldn’t quite believe that more people don’t venture out here. To make it even more special we’ve arranged a cooking class in a nearby traditional Khmer house that follows in the culinary footsteps of many of the celebrity chefs who’ve visited the region, from Gordon Ramsey and Anthony Bourdain to Rick Stein. First head deep into the Cambodian countryside around Siem Reap where you’ll visit the local market of Roluos, a traditional town far removed from the tourism industry around Angkor. After browsing the local market for some fresh ingredients, head to Sala Rolous and recreate many of the traditional dishes they enjoyed.
In the afternoon head to Tonle Sap Lake and the village of Kompong Pluk by boat. Cruising down a narrow waterway, enter this medieval floating village, where the houses stand atop stilts as much as seven metres above the water. Everything lives on the water, pigs, dogs, crocodiles and people, all jockeying for space in this incredible floating town.
Day 4 – Hidden Trails of Angkor
There are so many temples to see in the Angkor park that blink and you’ll miss them. We can of course arrange an air-conditioned car but one of the best ways to see what is around you is by bike, be it mountain bike, e-bike or even motorbike. By taking to two wheels you can escape the main routes, take the back roads and enter the main temples through jungle paths without the rest of the tourists.
Leaving Siem Reap early, you’ll use a forest path to avoid the traffic head to the North Gate of Ta Prohm, the ‘jungle temple’ abandoned to the elements. You’ll then cycle on to Ta Nei, a small temple that has been forgotten in the jungle and sees few visitors. You then enter the immense walled city of Angkor Thom, see Bayon and explore the main temples of Angkor Thom, including Baphuon, Phimeanakas, Preah Palilay, Terrace of the Leper King and Preah Pithu. Enjoy a traditional Khmer lunch menu at Sala Kdei, a special traditional wooden home, exclusive for use by our local agents, on the banks of the Royal bathing pool at Sra Srang.
Day 5 – Angkor Wat & Shinta Mani Wild
Saving the best to last you’ll rise at the crack of dawn, and journey out to the Mother of all temples, Angkor Wat. Believed to be the world's largest religious building, this temple is the perfect fusion of symbolism and is the most famous temple at Angkor. After a morning of exploring head to the airport for your flight to Phnom Penh, where on arrival you’ll be met and transferred (about two and a half hours) to Shinta Mani Wild. Shinta Mani Wild is an uber luxurious tented retreat, located in the heart of Cambodia’s Southern Cardamom national park. The camp is designed by visionary Bill Bensley, who has set out to protect the 400-acre river valley from poaching, mining and logging. The fifteen custom designed tents have fabulous creative touches, from the outdoor bathtubs overlooking the river to the retro decor. On arrival you’ll climb to the top of the lookout tower to view the surrounding wilderness, before being harnessed up and zipwiring over the spectacular waterfall, directly into the Landing Zone Bar, where your drink of choice awaits! (of course, you can also drive in if zipwiring is not for you!!)
Day 6 - 7 – Shinta Mani Wild
Shinta Mani Wild is an uber luxurious tented retreat, located in the heart of Cambodia’s Southern Cardamom national park. The camp is designed by visionary Bill Bensley, who has set out to protect the 400-acre river valley from poaching, mining and logging. The fifteen custom designed tents have fabulous creative touches, from the outdoor bathtubs overlooking the river to the retro decor. Beyond relaxing on your deck, looking out to the stunning river and jungle views, enjoying sumptuous food and drinks (all included in your stay), there are many activities for guests to enjoy and your personal butler will create an itinerary suited to your interests. Hike in the nearby forest, indulge in the jungle spa are choose from one of their signature experiences:
Head out on patrol with the rangers from the Wildlife Alliance, a wildlife NGO dedicated to stopping and catching poachers and illegal loggers in the area.
Spend an afternoon on one of the expedition boats and explore the upper reaches of a nearby estuary. Anchor in a beautiful back water to take out the kayaks while your butler gets the barbecue going to cook up the fresh giant crabs that you just caught.
Meet the chef and set off on a foraging expedition in our land as he shares his vast wealth of knowledge on the plants, fruits, and fungi that the forest has to offer. On your return prepare to enjoy a cooking class unlike any other.
Day 8–12 Six Senses Krabey
Transfer (approx. two and a half hours) to Six Senses boat pier, where you’ll be able to freshen up before the short boat transfer over to Koh Krabey Island. Six Senses have transformed this tiny volcanic island into a gorgeous intimate retreat, with 30 acres of jungle carefully landscaped to preserve the natural environment. The 40 private pool villas have been cleverly blended into their surroundings with the use of local timbers, volcanic stone and rooftops blanketed in tropical vegetation. Interiors are contemporary with neutral tones, creating a relaxed jungle-lux vibe. Enjoy five nights here doing as much or as little as you like. The Spa here is one of the best we’ve ever seen with just about every treatment you can imagine, all tucked away within the jungle setting. Experiences abound at Six Senses with a range of under and over-water activities, including snorkelling, diving and kayaking. Reminiscent of the Seychelles, the island’s gorgeous beach is hidden amongst giant boulders in a small cove, with crystal clear waters and a small off-shore reef.
Accommodation - 5 Nights
Day 13 Phnom Penh
Cruise back to the mainland this morning and travel by road to Phnom Penh where on arrival you’ll check-in to the Rosewood (approx. two and a half hours depending on the traffic). Rosewood is a beautiful modern high-rise hotel with amazing views of the city, if you prefer something a little more traditional, Raffles is another beautiful hotel, completely different in style. We love both and find it hard to choose between them.
Accommodation - 2 Nights
Day 14 – Phnom Penh City Tour & Killing Fields
Today you’ll explore the stunning Royal Palace complex, home to the Cambodian royal family and a symbol of the nation, followed by a visit to the nearby National Museum, home to the world's finest collection of sculpture from the Angkor period. The exquisite building was completed between 1917 and 1920 and features a lush courtyard garden surrounded by collections from the pre-Angkor, Angkor and post-Angkor periods.
For lunch travel to the School of Hospitality and Tourism of Pour Un Sourire d' Enfant (PSE), a French NGO supporting children from the garbage dump. Take a tour of the PSE facilities where both schooling and work/life skills are available to the children and youths as a way of escaping the poverty of their lives spent on the city’s main garbage dump. Take lunch here, where their Lotus Blanc restaurant serves excellent international and Asian cuisine.
This afternoon visit Tuol Sleng and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. Come face to face with the horrific crimes of the Khmer Rouge. Tuol Sleng was a former high school that the Khmer Rouge turned into a centre for interrogation, torture and death. Today it is a museum of torture and serves to remind visitors of the terrible atrocities that came to pass in Cambodia. 17,000 people passed through the gates of this prison and only seven lived to tell the tale. Then travel out of town to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. Prisoners from Tuol Sleng followed this same route to their fate. An old Chinese cemetery, Choeung Ek was turned into an extermination camp for political prisoners. The remains of 8985 people were exhumed from mass graves and are kept in a memorial stupa here. Despite the horrors of the past, it is a peaceful place to go and a tranquil spot to reflect on the tragic events that engulfed Cambodia and its people. This afternoon’s visits are completely optional.

Best time to travel
Cambodia is a year-round destination, although some seasons suit certain experiences better. The dry season from November to April brings sunny days and lower humidity, making it ideal for exploring Angkor Wat and the country’s cultural highlights, while the wetter months offer lush landscapes and fewer crowds. Cambodia’s tropical climate makes it an excellent destination for temples, countryside and coastal escapes in many seasons.

Why Choose Turquoise?
Family Owned & Run
We are one of the few remaining family owned and run operators of our size. We have direct relationships with every single destination, island, resort and hotel we work with, in order to deliver exceptional and truly personalised service.
Our Passion Runs Deep
We are - and always have been - mad about travel. For almost 25 years we've been scouring the globe for the best places to stay, the newest routes to take, the perfect people to meet. No-one will care more about your holiday.
Definition of Luxury
Luxury means something different to everyone. Whether you are seeking the silence of vast spaces, the isolation of a private island, the buzz of a new city, the adrenaline of a safari or anything in between, we listen, we learn, we advise.
Fun & Refreshing
We endeavour that every Turquoise experience is unique, fun and refreshing. Travel is all about experiences, about serendipitous moments and endless smiles. It is a joy and an honour to plan each and every Turquoise holiday.
What Our Travellers Say
“As enthusiastic retirees with a serious case of wanderlust, my wife and I now travel abroad at least four times a year. We'd been subscribed to The Turquoise Holiday Company mailing list for years, but it wasn't until we spotted a special offer for Thailand in November 2019 that we finally booked our first holiday with them.Interestingly, a few months earlier, while waiting for a flight to the Maldives in June 2019, we noticed another couple travelling with a Turquoise travel bag. At the time, we thought little of it, but looking back, it was perhaps an early sign that we were about to discover a travel company that would become our go-to specialist for luxury holidays. Our first experience with Turquoise was excellent and gave us the confidence to book a Maldives holiday for June 2020. Then, of course, COVID struck and brought the travel industry to a standstill. What impressed us most was the way Turquoise handled an incredibly difficult situation. Rather than leaving us in limbo, they worked tirelessly to rearrange our holiday multiple times, adapting to constantly changing restrictions and circumstances. Eventually, in November 2020, despite flying with a different airline and staying at a different hotel than originally planned, we were able to enjoy a much-needed Maldives escape when many other travel plans around the world had simply been cancelled altogether. That experience cemented our trust in The Turquoise Holiday Company. Since then, we have booked many holidays through them and now use them for the vast majority of our trips abroad. What consistently sets Turquoise apart is the quality of its people. Every member of staff we have dealt with has been knowledgeable, professional, friendly and exceptionally thorough. Their expertise, attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile give us complete confidence that every aspect of our holiday is being carefully managed. In an age where genuine customer service can be hard to find, The Turquoise Holiday Company continues to deliver it in abundance. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking for a travel agent that combines expert knowledge, outstanding customer care and absolute professionalism. They have played a major part in some of our most memorable travel experiences, and we look forward to booking many more adventures with them in the years ahead.”
“Right from first contact, Bethany & colleagues were great. Bethany adjusted the holiday offered several times to get it just how we wanted it, & it was everything she said it would be. We went to Coco Bodu Hithi & it was amazing, I thoroughly recommend it. Turquoise have a great app which was really useful & they were there for us all along the way, even sending me updates on flights. I recommend them 100%.”
“Everything was so efficient from our very first contact. We are not seasoned travellers so the support/help/advice we received from Lucy all the way through was so reassuring. Even the daftest question was never too much trouble. Looking forward to booking again for 2028 - we wouldn’t dream of looking forward alternative travel agents. Thank you so much 🥰”
“I am so thankful we used Turquoise Holidays! From start to finish they were exceptional. A shout out to Martha who designed and organised our honeymoon for us - she took the stress out of planning, understood the vision and put together our dream holiday. She was a pleasure to work with and it was beyond anything we could have imagined. I can’t tell you how relieved we were to have all of our transport and transfers sorted the other side. Especially for a trip like ours with lots of flights and travel, using Turquoise Holidays made it so much easier. We also used the concierge services to book activities and they were so helpful and kind. Will definitely use Turquoise again, I can’t wait for our next holiday!”
“Sophie was brilliant from start to finish. From the very first email she was professional but also had that friendly touch. Any amendments I wanted to our honeymoon plans she came back with the updated itinerary. Even after 5 iterations she was still incredible with the responses. I would highly recommend using turquoise travel and we will definitely be using them again”
“Amazing Family Holiday and just what we asked for! We wanted a resort and location that was approriate for small kids but had all the luxuries for adults, and Turquoise holidays provided a great service. Commincation was great and they took all the pain out of the small details and provided an excellent service and the value was outstanding!”
“Just got back from a fantastic Holiday in Mauritius with which I booked the Holiday with Turquoise Holidays. This is my first time I have booked with this company and I will have no hesitation in booking again, from start to finish the correspondence I had with Milly and the rest of the team at Turquoise as been outstanding. Thankyou Neil & Jane”
“Enjoyable trip to Canada.Jonty made excellent recommendations as always, hotels were great in every respect.Highly recommend Turquoise for their advice and insight into places and hotels at a very good price point. We have used many times in the past and will continue do use again in the future.”
“Mrs Stone organised all my flights details and extra help extremely well.”
“This was the best travel agent experience we have ever had. We went on a bespoke 5 week trip to Australia. Our agent, Stuart, designed a trip exactly matching our requirements and really listened to us when we described the brief. What came through strongly during the course of the trip was Turquoise’s ability to not just source the best properties/accommodation, but the best rooms in those properties. Likewise with the tours and activities that they organised — everything felt highly curated and considered. When any queries arose or we wanted to change the bugs, the team was super-responsive through the app. We will definitely use them again have recommended them to many friends.”
“We had a really good time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The blend of activity and adventures in Sri Lanka mixed with the relaxation and tranquility of the Maldives, worked extremely well and the itinerary put together by Turquoise was excellent.Overall we were very impressed with Sri Lanka and whilst hectic at times enjoyed our busy agenda. We found all the accommodation wonderful and food was plentiful and enjoyable. We were pleased to have climbed the two rocks to see the sunset/sunrise albeit a bit daunting when we realised the climbing challenge ahead.Special mention has to go to our driver/guide Mahesh who was excellent and really helped make our trip run smoothly. He was knowledgeable, practical and always prompt. In fact our only hiccup occurred when trying to leave the Notary House to fly to Male. We had booked a 4am alarm call, bags to be picked up at 4.20am and “breakfast to go” ready for 4.30am. Fortunately we had used our own phone alarms as we awoke to a completely silent hotel, no alarm call, no bags collected and no breakfast, and no driver. We did however just about hear a car hooting and on seeing some lights at the end of the long drive to the hotel set off and found Mahesh. However, the gates were padlocked shut and Mahesh was locked out and we were locked in! Fortunately Mahesh had a number for the hotel and after ringing several times, an apologetic staff member appeared and unlocked the gate and off we went. Phew !After making our plane we successfully arrived in Male and took the speedboat to Velassaru. We thought the island was impeccably well kept and had obviously been recently modernised in many areas. Our room - 205 - was perfectly positioned close to the Chill Bar, and ideal for drinking cocktails and watching the sunset, yet only a small walk from all other amenities including the buffet restaurant where we ate all our meals. We found the breakfast plentiful and varied but thought the offerings for dinner were less extensive than on other islands( maybe we were a bit spoilt at Six Senses last year ! ). We were also disappointed that given we were half board had we wished to use any of the other 3 à la carte restaurants for dinner then this was additionally chargeable albeit with a 30% discount. And yes, sadly the view from our villa of Thilafushi was certainly not ideal or romantic but overall we still agreed that Velassaru was a lovely island with everything you would expect from a trip to the Maldives.Overall we were very satisfied and would consider doing a similar trip again and definitely using Turquoise albeit I think we would allow for a longer journey from Male and take the seaplane even if that did eat into a bit more of our holiday time. Thanks again to Anthony for listening to our requirement and tailoring our trip to suit our needs.Steve ( and Cathy )”
“Always so helpful, professional and efficient, thank you once again!”
