When is hurricane season in the Caribbean?

The official Caribbean hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, but that doesn’t mean you should rule out a Caribbean holiday during these months.

Historically, the period when hurricanes are most likely to cause disruption is much shorter, with the greatest activity typically occurring between mid-August and early October. Even during this period, many Caribbean holidays go ahead without any disruption, but it’s worth being aware that there is a greater possibility of unsettled weather.

The good news is that hurricane risk varies considerably across the Caribbean. The northern Caribbean, including destinations such as Cuba, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas and Florida, is more exposed to tropical storms and hurricanes.

Further south, islands such as Barbados, Grenada and many of the Southern Caribbean islands are generally much less affected by hurricanes, making them particularly appealing options for a Caribbean escape during the summer and early autumn months.

This is where our Caribbean specialists can help. They know the islands inside out and can advise on the best destinations and times to travel based on your priorities, helping you find the right balance of sunshine, experiences and peace of mind. So, if you’re considering a Caribbean holiday during hurricane season, don’t discount the region altogether. Let our specialists guide you towards the islands that are right for you.
