New Zealand Family Holidays

Beaches, rainforests, lakes, mountains and rivers – New Zealand’s stunning natural landscape is a giant playground for all ages. Children will love the exploding geysers and bubbling mud pools, swimming with dolphins and shearing a sheep. Adults will love the award-winning wine and mouth-watering Pacific Rim cuisine. Anyone with a passion for all things Hobbit-like will have endless fun exploring the wonderful world of Middle Earth.

North Vs South

We recommend seeing both the North Island and the South Island on your New Zealand family holiday as they offer such variety for all ages. The country’s North Island is home to the cosmopolitan cities of Auckland and Wellington, geothermal Rotorua and the picturesque Bay of Islands whilst the South Island boasts dramatic scenery in the form of mountains, glaciers, fiords and lakes as well as the Southern Hemisphere’s adventure capital, Queenstown! Both islands offer a compelling insight into Maori culture. Make a classic Kiwi beach house – or ‘bach’ – your family home for a few days to really live life like a local, then mix and match self-catering apartments, boutique B&Bs and luxury lodges for variety.

When to travel to New Zealand

For those with school-age children, a holiday to New Zealand during our Christmas, Easter or Summer breaks promises a wonderful experience. The NZ summer spans from December to February with temperatures generally at their highest in the latter part of the season. Autumn (March to May) is a delightful time to visit with both islands bathed in beautiful golden hues. Winter (June to August) is ideal for those who'd like to combine a spot of skiing with a variety of fun, family activites from jetboating and white-water rafting to Hobbit-spotting and bush-walking.

Hit the Road

Driving in New Zealand is stress-free and exceptionally scenic...what’s more, Kiwis drive on the left too! For added adventure, hiring a campervan gives kids untold excitement as well as giving you flexibility to go where you want, when you want. Think of a campervan as a versatile playhouse on wheels full of creature comforts, so throw away the schedule and explore this beautiful country at your own pace. Whether you prefer to cruise along in the slow lane or hit the ground running with adrenaline activities to make your hair stand on end, New Zealand guarantees a memorable holiday to suit every family.

Guana Island is a rainforested bolthole that offers the ultimate in tropical seclusion. It has seven (yes, seven!) pristine beaches and acres of island wilderness that you can explore and enjoy almost all to yourself, bar a few inquisitive rock iguanas and migratory birds. Bliss!
