There is something really quite special about Pimalai, the name translates from the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit as ‘little patch of heaven’ and it goes without saying that the location is idyllic. Koh Lanta is a very peaceful place, a natural island with a quiet charm that is thankfully still largely unspoiled with beautiful beaches and soaring emerald green mountains but it is more than this that makes Pimalai so extraordinary. We think it’s the luxury of somewhere very special that manages to be very unique and exclusive but without any of the fuss.
Overlooking beautiful Kantiang Bay and surrounded by native forest, this well laid out and low-rise resort sits absolute beachfront and then clambers into the hills behind. Access to the resort is from the mainland jetty by launch – all adding to the sense of exclusivity.

The style is very much southern Thai with plenty of local influences in the shape of highly polished floors, bamboo blinds and wooden furnishings and there are a variety of rooms to choose from. The deluxe and bay front rooms are beautiful and a number offer partial ocean views but it’s the much- lauded pool villa wing that really tickle our fancy. Set on the hillside each villa is within its own compound and utter privacy is ensured, the infinity edge pool with jaw-dropping panoramic views is the perfect backdrop. The elevated position does mean an uphill walk but resort buggies are on hand for transportation and the view is most certainly worth it!
