The Best Honeymoon Destinations in December

It’s cold, wet and gloomy at home, so a hot honeymoon in December makes perfect sense. The Caribbean is wonderful, as are The MaldivesMauritius and Southeast Asia. A December honeymoon also means summer time in South Africa – Cape Town is positively buzzing.

December is a great month to visit Thailand with glorious weather throughout. It is also an ideal choice for couples seeking a bit more than just a beach, as you can combine a number of experiences in one honeymoon, from living it up in Bangkok for a few days to exploring the beautiful scenery in northern Thailand. Base yourself in Chiang Mai and sample authentic Thai culture visiting the local hill tribe villages or joining a local cooking class – head into the jungle for an elephant encounter or raft down the river watching the world go by. Head south to the Koh Sok National Park for spectacular scenery, kayak amongst the karst scenery, trek through the jungle and stay in a luxury tented camp. Of course any holiday to Thailand will include a beach extension and we can recommend some really special hideaways – a perfect end to your honeymoon. Malaysia is equally as beautiful and perfect in December, as is Vietnam – ideal for newlyweds looking for scenery, culture and luxury.

Further afield, Australia and New Zealand are welcoming in their summer in December. Escape to a stylish retreat on Waiheke Island, off the coast from Auckland, and make this the starting point for an amazing honeymoon through New Zealand’s North and South Islands. Byron Bay in northern New South Wales has glorious unspoiled surf beaches and a great restaurant scene while Lord Howe Island is a lesser-known jewel just a two-hour flight from Sydney. And if you time your honeymoon right there’s no better place in the world to celebrate New Year’s Eve than Sydney. It unquestionably boasts one of the most beautiful harbours in the world.

Don’t forget to check out the details of our Honeymoon gift list service, which allows friends and family to contribute towards travel experiences as well as the more traditional gift list items, all in one place. A complimentary service for all Turquoise honeymoon couples and looked after by a full time team, it’s just one of the ways we can ensure your dream honeymoon, becomes a reality.
