Banyan Tree Krabi Luxury Hotel, Thailand

If Banyan Tree Krabi Hotel only had a solitary trump card to play, it would be this: location, location, location. Wedged between the golden-hued Tubkaak beach and the jungle-wrapped hills of Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park, it can lay claim to one of Krabi's most idyllic corners. Not only that, it has a prime view of Phang Nga Bay's dramatic limestone karsts.

With such an incredible vista on your doorstep, you'll want to admire it at every available opportunity and we have good news for you: there will be plenty of them. The rugged karst formations can be spied in full from every room and restaurant, while the all-pool suites and villas give you another way to soak them up properly.

Banyan Tree is a brand well-known for its teakwood elegance but here the design is much more modern in its appearance. The feel of the resort has been inspired on the legend of the naga, a serpentine dragon that is once thought to have prowled Krabi's rainforest. The lobby resembles a glamorous dragon's lair, the wavy wall panels mimic the naga's snake-like movements and the wallpaper, carpets and bathrooms all feature scaly patterns. There's nothing beastly about your stay at the Banyan Tree – far from it. But when you're relaxing in your private pool and looking out at Krabi's epic limestone karsts, you might understand why the naga wanted to claim Krabi for itself.

Highlights

Banyan Tree Krabi

Sleep

Banyan Tree Krabi is the only all-pool villa resort in Krabi. Every single one of its suites and villas comes with a private pool and jet pool on the balcony, ensuring you can (literally) soak up the province's finest views. Depending on the room category you pick, the pools can dominate your balcony or even wrap around three sides of your villa.

The rooms themselves are adorned with neutral colours, with white walls, cream fabrics and brightly coloured pillows in teal, silver and blue, while the ceilings are a combination of bleached wood and dark beams. The legend of the naga has inspired the wavy panelled walls and scaly wallpaper, bathrooms and carpets to add a sense of place to these elegant hideaways.

Eat

Home to three restaurants, it's no surprise you can savour those dreamy Phang Nga Bay views from each one at Banyan Tree Krabi.

The Naga Kitchen, named after Krabi's infamous serpentine, is the resort's premier all-day dining venue and focuses on a rich mix of international specialities. But the real 'wow' factor belongs to Saffron, Banyan Tree Krabi's signature restaurant. Accessible only by a funicular, Saffron reimagines expert cooking techniques from across Southeast Asia to whip up Thai dishes in a wonderful jungle-fringed pavilion. For something truly special, it's 'bird's nest' private tables are perched high up in the trees with panoramic vistas of glittering Phang Nga Bay.

Overlooking the Andaman Sea, the Kredkaew Bar serves Mediterranean cuisine with a large side of tranquil ambience.

Play

This incredible location is one you'll be itching to explore from the moment you arrive. There's snorkelling, stand-up paddleboarding and sailing if you want to get a bit closer to the Andaman Sea and its gorgeous limestone karsts, while half-day tours take you to nearby islands to witness local life and discover hidden corners you can call your own.

Back at the resort, the concierge at Banyan tree Krabi are very helpful with suggestions of jungle hikes you can undertake in the surrounding rainforest (with or without a guide) and once you've built up an appetite, you can conjure up your own tasty meals with a chef-led cooking class.
