Located in the village of Tembok on Bali’s exotic north-east coast (known for its black sand), this secluded sanctuary blends effortlessly with the island’s landscape – and as its name suggests, the focus here is very much on the spa experience. Proudly listed as one of ‘The 101 Best Spas in the World’ in the prestigious Tatler Spa Guide 2009, Spa Village Resort Tembok Bali seeks to restore mind, body and soul through a series of revitalising treatments which honour the ancient healing traditions of Balinese culture. Naturally, a daily spa treatment is included in your stay. Inspired by the award-winning Spa Village Pangkor Laut in Malaysia, Spa Village Resort Tembok Bali encourages guests to venture on a journey of self-discovery – and every aspect of the resort reflects one of four ‘Discovery Paths’ – all of which have been specifically designed to offer an authentic Balinese experience. ‘Balance’ combines spa treatments such as soothing body wraps and massage with gentle walks and yoga to help induce peace of mind. Immersion in Balinese arts such as woodcarving and basket weaving is the focus of the ‘Creativity’ path, whilst the ‘Vigour’ path encourages more strenuous activity and movement through daily personal training, beach walks and other outdoor activities such as diving and snorkelling. The Spa Village Academy offers daily insight classes into the philosophy and practices of this unique island’s healing arts such as learning the basics of traditional Balinese massage. Cookery classes, a sunset cruise and bike rides through quaint villages are also available. The resort’s stylish and elegant accommodation comprises 27 Kamar Rooms, two exclusive one bedroom Suites and two stunning, very private one bedroom Villas (the Villas each have a plunge pool with views of the ocean). In keeping with the resort’s commitment to providing a peaceful environment, there are no televisions in the rooms – and mobile phones are not permitted in public areas. The resort also boasts a magnificent midnight blue infinity swimming pool and a superb open-air restaurant which overlooks the ocean. The cuisine is equally as inspiring as the surrounding landscape and the versatile daily à la carte menu includes freshly caught seafood and fruit from local organic farms - all meals are included in your stay.
