Tongabezi & Sindabezi

The first river lodge on the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls, this unique hideaway is renowned for its secluded and peaceful setting in a tranquil grove of African ebony trees on a sweeping bend of the Zambezi River, just 12 miles upstream from Victoria Falls. Privately owned and run, Tongabezi combines its enchanting ambience with the legendary warmth and hospitality of the people of Zambia. Ideal for a few days pre or post safari, Tongabezi inspires a little magical romance in all those who visit. All the activities of the Falls are on the doorstep, including thrilling boat trips to Livingstone Island where David Livingstone caught his first glimpse of the mighty falls. Guests can also enjoy a stay on Tongabezi’s very own private island, Sindabezi – an extraordinary and exclusive camp and most certainly the discerning traveller’s best kept secret.

SLEEP

Tongabezi’s accommodation is provided in a collection of unique houses and cottages, each individually styled with furnishings from around the world and all with a personal valet assigned to each room. There are five luxury River Cottages (close to the elements, so perhaps best suited to those who would prefer not to sleep in an open-fronted room) and a further five individual open-fronted Houses, wonderfully named Bird House, Dog House, Tree House, Nut House and of course, Honeymoon House!  Built with the perfect view, the indulgent and private Honeymoon House is the original blueprint for Tongabezi’s stunning accommodation. The private balcony overlooks the river, providing the perfect setting for a secluded candlelit dinner beneath the stars.

Perfect for families, and the result of a number of years of energy, imagination and many conversations with family travellers, Tongabezi's Garden House offers a very private and safe space for families to enjoy a memorable holiday to the Victoria Falls. It boasts two large bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, an intimate lounge and a dining area, a vast enclosed garden for children to run around and a private plunge pool.

For larger families or simply those who want to experience the true Zambian family-safari experience, the prestigious Tangala House could provide the answer. Sleeping up to 8 guests, Tangala House has 4 bedrooms (3 of which have en-suite bathrooms), a spacious kitchen-diner, a central lounge that is fully-equipped with a satellite television and accessories and a children’s playroom. The state-of-the-art outdoor area boasts a verandah, a vast lawn space and swimming pool, specially designed for children with an extra shallow area and bench seating.

Located on a private isle on the Zambezi River, unique Sindabezi Island offers five open-sided thatched cottages which allow guests to soak up the sights and sounds of the African bush in this perfect, pristine setting. Views across the flood plains of the Zambezi and into the nearby National Park complete the experience. Reached via a short boat journey, Sindabezi Island Lodge is one of the top 10 eco lodges in Africa. Each stands on stilts above the water with a private deck and spectacular river views.

EAT

Whatever your reason for staying here – nothing is too much trouble at Tongabezi! And when it comes to private dining, there’s a never ending choice of venues, from a quirky picnic on an authentic dhow to an indulgent lazy breakfast in your king size bed, or how about your very own ‘Sampan’ floating on the Zambezi River, illuminated by the Milky Way and paraffin lamps - with every course delivered by canoe!
