California Cool Meets Tahitian Bliss

One of the coolest and most romantic holidays or honeymoons possible has to be a fun road trip through the scenic masterpiece that is California followed by a gloriously romantic sojourn in an overwater bungalow in heavenly Tahiti! This two week itinerary takes you from the city sights in cosmopolitan San Francisco, then southwards along the infamous Big Sur coast road to buzzing Los Angeles and onwards to Tahiti for the grand finale. This is a perfect blend of adventure and dreamy bliss!

  • California San Fran

    Days 1-2 San Francisco

Arrive into this vibrant bayside city and spend time exploring its many iconic sights, including the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, historic cable cars and Alcatraz. Maybe watch a ball game, cycle over the bridge to Sausalito and take the ferry back across the bay, eat clam chowder whilst watching the seals at Pier 39, check out the culinary delights at the Ferry Building, or hit the shops for some serious retail tharapy.

Stay: 2 nights at Hotel Zetta, room only

  • California- Carmel Valley

    Days 3-4 Carmel Valley

Collect your car and drive south towards the Carmel and Monterey area. Stop to watch the surfers and have a coffee or a bite to eat in Santa Cruz then follow the coast to pretty Carmel-by-the-Sea. Wander through the network of charming streets that were once the stomping ground of former Mayor, Clint Eastwood, cruise along the sensationally scenic 17-mile drive, play a round of golf at Pebble Beach and visit the fascinating aquarium in Monterey.

Stay: 2 nights at Bernardus Lodge, Carmel Valley, room only

If you have time to head north to the vineyards of Sonoma and Napa, we highly recommend squeezing in a couple of nights after San Fran and before you head south to the Big Sur area - we love Carneros Resort & Spa and Farmhouse Inn

  • California Pacific Coast Highway

    Days 5-6 Santa Barbara

Continue south along the Pacific Coast Highway and prepare yourselves for jaw-dropping vistas as the road twists and turns with dramatic effect! Cross over Bixby Bridge - definitely worth a photo stop - and drive past giant Redwood trees as the road hugs the cliff with ocean views to take your breath away. If your budget can stretch to it, switch your stay in Carmel with a couple of nights at Post Ranch Inn - one of the most magical places on earth. If staying here isn't an option, then you can't beat stopping for a leisurely lunch to remember! Be sure to pre-book.

Arrive into the Mediterranean-esque oceanside city of Santa Barbara late in the afternoon and relax with a sundowner on the hillside terrace at Belmond El Encanto or down in the Funk Zone amongst the buzz of bars and restaurants serving locally made craft beer and wine.

Stay: 2 nights at Belmond El Encanto, Santa Barbara, room only

  • California Santa Monica

    Days 7-8 Santa Monica

A shorter drive today - just a couple of hours - takes you to the sunny shores of Santa Monica. Stop in Malibu to watch the surfers do their thing whilst you relax on the deck at Malibu Pier Farm Cafe with a fresh juice, great coffee or perhaps try their tasty crab cakes. The activity options are endless in Santa Monica and greater LA - cycle along from Venice to Santa Monica Pier, head to the shops on Third Street Promenade, check out the Hollywood sign on a close-up tour, ride the rollercoasters at the city's various theme parks - or simply relax on Santa Monica's huge beach.

Stay: 2 nights at Oceana Beach Club, room only

  • Bora Bora - InterContinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa

    Days 9-14 Bora Bora

Drop your car at LAX as you say farewell to California and fly to the legendary South Pacific island of Bora Bora. You'll arrive into Papeete from LA (just an 8 hour flight) and then connect onto an inter-island flight to Bora Bora, just 45 minutes away. It's all about the lagoon here, the varying shades of blue have to be seen to be believed! There's a variety of resorts to choose between depending on your preferred style and budget, from more traditional Polynesian inspired hideaways to luxurious retreats - take a look at our favourites here. We've included a 5 night stay at the wonderful InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa, but the choice is yours!

Stay: 5 nights at InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa, with breakfast

  • Take Me There
