- Raffles Hotel Singapore
Raffles Hotel Singapore
One of Asia’s most iconic hotels, Raffles has been a cornerstone of Singapore hospitality since it first opened in 1887. Founded by four Armenian brothers and named after Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore, the hotel is a true reflection of the city’s multicultural roots. Declared a Singapore National Monument in 1987, Raffles has long attracted writers, artists, royalty and celebrities, with Somerset Maugham once describing it as a symbol of “all the fables of the Exotic East”. It has also played host to countless historic moments, films and famous guests over the decades.
Raffles Hotel Singapore
With its elegant white façade and opulent colonial interiors, the unique style of Raffles has been much imitated around the world. Following a sensitive facelift and renovation, Raffles today feels as elegant and gracious as ever, but with a more modern, refined finish. The famous white façade remains, as do the shaded courtyards, lush gardens and welcoming doormen, but interiors have been subtly refreshed, blending classic colonial style with contemporary comfort. Rattan furniture, airy verandas and tranquil spaces are paired with lighter tones, polished details and a fresher, more streamlined feel.
The 103 suites are spread across four wings, connected by open verandas and leafy walkways. Each suite is wonderfully spacious, inspired by pre-war colonial bungalows, with high ceilings, beautiful furnishings and thoughtful modern touches that enhance the sense of understated luxury without detracting from the hotel’s heritage.
Raffles offers an impressive range of facilities, including a collection of excellent restaurants and bars, a serene spa, swimming pool and fitness centre, designer boutiques, a culinary academy and the Raffles Hotel Museum. And of course, no stay would be complete without a visit to the Long Bar for a Singapore Sling, enjoyed in the very place where it was first created.
