The 59 rooms come with beach, pool or garden views and the design of each is inspired by the island itself. Think turquoise seas, vibrant blue skies, green fields of sugar – they have created a stunning, unmistakably Mauritian, hotel using (of course) locally made fabrics and furniture. Our favourite room has got to be Bang On Beach and not just for its cool name – drifting off to the soothing sound of waves lapping the shore is pretty awesome, too.

As you might expect, the food is local, fresh and utterly delicious. We love that the hotel works with local farmers to supply the open-sided restaurant with its organic, seasonal produce. For the dishes, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Mauritian flavours all play a part and the closest thing you’ll get to a buffet is the fresh, filtered mineral water stations dotted around the hotel. The two bars enjoy views of their perfect island setting – the roof bar and pool bar – and all serve local beverages and homemade cocktails.

SALT has a really unique approach to how guests experience the island. Mauritius is an island drenched in history, heritage and culture and SALT proudly encourages their guests to get out and drink it in. Why not hire a bike and take a ride along the coastal path for its spectacular views, or take a street food tour of Port Louis? Bustling Flacq market is a 10-minute taxi ride away and gives an authentic glimpse of local island life. Activities on offer within the hotel centre around the 25-metre lap pool, surrounded by relaxing sun-loungers and beanbags. Down on the beach, there’s a sunrise running club and sunset yoga on the beach. 

Like everything else at SALT, the spa is pretty unique and, naturally, salt plays a starring role – think salt soaks, salt body scrubs and dry salt therapy.

SALT of Palmar has uniquely paired its experiential side with its soothing spa in its SALT Sensory Package. Included is a comprehensive foot treatment, a halotherapy session where salt vapour and crystals are used to boost your immune system, and a curry-making class with one of their top chefs.
