Jungle Beach Adventure

Combine a jungle adventure with relaxation at one of Borneo’s beautiful beach resorts. This itinerary includes two nights in Kuala Lumpur before flying to Sandakan to visit the Sepilok orangutan sanctuary and a one-night stay at Sepilok Jungle Lodge. You then transfer to Abai Jungle Lodge for two days of jungle experiences, before flying to Kota Kinabalu for a five-night stay at the luxury Gaya Island Resort with private beach and top-class spa. 

  • Days 1- 2 Kuala Lumpur

    Days 1-2 The Trader Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

    Kuala Lumpur is a truly modern city and perfect for a couple of day’s exploration. The city’s skyline is punctuated by huge skyscrapers, of which the Petronas Twin Towers are the most instantly recognisable. Modern day KL is also particularly renowned for its fabulous shopping – mega-malls abound and the area of Bukit Bintang is filled with restaurants, shops, malls and international chains. Chinatown is centred around the Jalan Petaling area. Great for shopping, as well as the many Chinese dishes which are served here, the area has a lively buzz and is a great draw for tourists.

    Day 3 Sepilok Jungle Resort

    Transfer to the airport for your direct flight to Sandakan where on arrival you will be met and  transferred to the resort (approx. 30-40 minutes) and enjoy lunch at the lodge. At 13.30 heat to the Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary for the 14.30 feeding. The Sanctuary is located at the centre of the mangrove forest along the coastal land near Samawang Village at Labuk Bay. The Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary offers another perfect Proboscis monkeys observation spot for any tourist who wants to have a closer look at these very special monkeys. You’ll return to the resort around 16.30. Rest and relax before proceeding on your 1800hrs guided night walk to the Sepilok Forest Trails to experience walking the dark to spot animals or insects. The walk will take about one hour before returning to your resort for dinner and overnight.

  • Days 4-5 Abai Jungle Lodge

    Days 4-5 Abai Jungle Lodge

    Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before our local guides transfer you to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center (approximately 30 minutes). Proceed to the free roaming area feeding platform for the 10am feeding. At this center, observe man’s closest relative “the Orang Utan” being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterocarp Forest of Borneo. Visit to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. At 11.45 depart the lodge and enjoy lunch in a local restaurant.

    At 12:30hrs depart transfer to jetty in Sandakan and take an hour boat cruise up to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary. This is a wonderful journey of discovery which starts from the waters of Sulu Sea of Sandakan Town through a magnificent scenery of the Mangrove Forest. Check in Abai Jungle Lodge. Late in the afternoon join a cruise to search for wildlife until the sunsets while enjoying a cup of coffee and by night falls. Return to the lodge for dinner before joining the “Jungle at night” at their nature boardwalk to search for birds, snakes, insects and other wildlife with their nature guides. 

    2nd day – Pitas Oxbow Lake, Tree Planting and lunch with locals
    Take an early morning river trip to the Pitas oxbow lake to observe wildlife. After breakfast, you are invited to join their tree planting project with the locals, enjoy a simple lunch arranged by the villagers at Abai village. This project specially design to help the locals. After lunch, you are free to explore the nature board walk behind the lodge. There may be…..wild orangutan! Silver leaf monkeys, birds and many others! Late afternoon, another river cruise to search for different wildlife.

  • Days 6-10 Gaya Island Resort

    After breakfast you are free to view more wildlife at the nature board walk before transferring back to the airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Sutera Harbour where you are whisked away to Gaya Island Resort by speedboat. Enjoy 5 nights to relax on the island. Enjoy the beach and the spa, head off on jungle treks with expert ranger guides or enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving. It is also easy to visit Kota Kinabalu and enjoy a range of excursions if you can drag yourself away from the island!
