East Coast Sri Lanka
For those looking to venture to a more undiscovered Sri Lankan beach, the east coast of the island is starting to wake up, and welcome new boutique hideaways such as Jungle Beach near Trincomalee and Uga Bay further south near Pasikuda. Relax on the naturally beautiful, unspoilt beaches, and enjoy a few days of total chill...as well as many fantastic diving and snorkelling sites. Between the months of May and October you may even catch a glimpse of the passing whale pods as they migrate south.

View ItineraryBest time to visit South East Sri Lanka
May to September is a lovely time to visit Sri Lanka’s east coast, with generally sunnier days and calmer seas for swimming, snorkelling and beach adventures. It’s a particularly appealing choice for the summer holidays, and combines beautifully with exploring the Cultural Triangle. Rain becomes more frequent from October, with the north-east monsoon bringing wetter weather into winter, so we favour the summer months for time beside the sea.
Where to stay in East Coast Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka’s east coast offers intimate beach hideaways and spacious resorts, with sandy shores and warm hospitality at the heart of a stay. Choose the Trincomalee area for coastal exploring and excursions to Pigeon Island, or Pasikudah for a wide, shallow bay and wonderfully relaxed beach days. Accommodation ranges from secluded cottages among coastal greenery to sea-view suites and private pool villas, with lovely options for couples and families.
Uga Bay
Located on Sri Lanka’s golden east coast, Uga Bay provides guests with charm, comfort and excellent cuisine. With an impressive infinity pool and an expanse of wide sandy beach in front, it is the perfect spot to unwind.
Gal Oya Lodge
Far from the madding crowds of better known Sri Lankan safari hot spots, a bird lover’s paradise and elephant enclave awaits all those who choose to stay at the ecocentic Gal Oya Lodge
Uga Jungle Beach
Located on the untouched east coast near Trincomalee, Jungle Beach is a boutique hideaway offering wild beach, golden sand pierced with drift wood and accommodation set deep in the jungle or directly on the beach.
Kalkudah Beach House
This is exactly what we picture when we dream of the perfect beach escape - two gorgeous villas tucked into a coconut grove with nothing but powder-soft sand between you and the Indian Ocean.
