A simply gorgeous historic home filled with character and stories, restored by Uga into a truly special hotel with just six suites. The estate where Uga Halloowella sits was established in 1880 and was owned by a World War 1 British Royal Air Force fighter pilot, Major Elton Lane. Set on a hilltop with curving lawns, you’ll enjoy views over the quiet, green hills of Hatton and the glittering Castlereagh Reservoir beneath. Expect a real sense of place here, from the wood panelled living room, the heritage fabrics and furnishings, and claw-footed bathtubs in the suites, and artwork adorning the walls. The views from every corner are sublime – one of our favourites is from the curved windows in the dining room, where pretty frescoes also adorn the walls.

Halloowella’s six suites ooze old-world sophistication without ever feeling overly formal. All feature king size four-poster beds, ceiling fans, en-suite bathrooms with walk-in shower and double vanities and mod cons. Each has a living space opening out onto the expansive lawns and there’s no such thing as an inferior view here. If a bathtub is a must, opt for one of the Pekoe or Lane suites, which are simply stunning. The Lane suites pay homage to the original owners Major Elton and Violet Lane, and feature a wood-burning fireplace to ward off the cool evenings in the highlands.
