Parker Palm Springs

It’s no wonder the Hollywood elite still escape to Palm Springs for some sunshine and a party at the weekend with hotels like the Parker in town. Originally a Holiday Inn, this mid century mansion has been transformed by the famously eccentric designer Jonathan Adler. Adler’s tongue and cheek approach to design blends perfectly with the overall concept and experience of this extraordinary hotel. Although not for everyone, if you have a penchant for the quirkier things in life, a stay at the Parker is likely to be a highlight of your journey through California.

Eat

Norma’s all day diner offers a range of mouth-watering delicacies, each with a pinch of humour and a dash of fun. The most talked about dish in Palm Springs has to be Norma’s ‘Zillion Dollar Frittata’… a lobster omelette served with 10 oz. of Sevruga Caviar for a mere… $1,000! However, we can assure you this is more for comical effect than representative of the regular dishes on the menu, which range from ‘rabbit food’ salads to ‘mom can’t make this’ classic American dishes – all much more reasonably priced! Mister Parker’s is the hotels well renowned fine dining restaurant and a nondescript navy velvet curtain masks it’s entrance from the lobby. Once inside diners will be transported into another Adler inspired world, emulating a New York private members club from the 70’s. The menu is celebrated French bistro and hugely popular with locals and guests alike making booking in advance essential to all. The Lobby’s mirrored Mini Bar is all about the cosy corners and contemporary cocktails… the coolest spot in town for a pre or post dinner drink.

Sleep

With 144 rooms and 12 suites, the Parker is much bigger than it seems due to the cleverly landscaped 13 acres on which it sits. Its lush jungle like gardens and winding pathways cleverly hide the different parts of the property from one another. For couples we love the Lanai (Hawaiian for terrace) rooms which face onto the ‘Silicon Valley’ pool area. For families and groups of friends, the villas are retro but stunning and very spacious, complete with swinging egg chairs and private terraces. The in room amenities are the best in the business and boast brands such as Acqua di Parma, Aesop, Hermes, Le Labo, Malin & Goetz and Pharmacopia.

Play & Pamper

Play – perhaps the most important part of your Parker experience! Guests will enjoy endless facilities including 4 clay tennis courts, 3 pools (one indoor), a pétanque court, croquet lawn, yoga studio and one of the most enormous spas we have ever seen. Having undergone a total renovation in 2016, the PSYC (Palm Springs Yacht Club) is truly unique. The indoor pool was originally designed by Givenchy and the country club atmosphere makes it a place you could easily spend you’re whole day. Anything goes at the Parker – if you want to have a cocktail before, during or after your spa treatment, the team will be delighted to help. After a hot day in the desert, stop by the candy striped lemonade Stand which serves (you guessed it!) freshly squeezed lemonade, using the fruit from the hundreds of citrus trees around the property. ‘You’re only young once, but you can be immature forever’ is the Parker’s mantra and for this… we love them.

Guana Island, British Virgin Islands

Guana Island is a rainforested bolthole that offers the ultimate in tropical seclusion. It has seven (yes, seven!) pristine beaches and acres of island wilderness that you can explore and enjoy almost all to yourself, bar a few inquisitive rock iguanas and migratory birds. Bliss!
