Serengeti Safari Camp - Northern Serengeti

Luxury in Tanzania's Northern Parks

The annual migration of 1.5 million wildebeest across the Serengeti is undoubtedly one of the most enthralling game viewing spectacles on earth! If your wish is to try to witness this great natural wonder, then we highly recommend staying ‘under canvas’ in one of the Serengeti’s traditional mobile camps which move seasonally to keep up with the herds. One such expeditionary mobile camp is Nomad Tanzania’s Lamai Camp – the first mobile camp of its kind, specifically set up to offer a ‘migration-chasing’ adventure with your own private vehicle and guide to take you out into the midst of the action. This pioneering camp changes location every couple of months (but not during your actual stay) in an effort to ensure that you are as close as possible to the movement of the wildebeest migration. This is a million miles from camping as most people know it!

But before heading to the Serengeti, enjoy 2 nights at Plantation Lodge in the Ngorongoro Highlands – the ideal base for exploring both Lake Manyara and the world renowned Ngorongoro Crater – and a great place to break your journey enroute to the Serengeti.

  • Serengeti Safari Camp - Northern Serengeti

Days 1-2 Plantation Lodge, Ngorongoro Highlands

Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport where you will be met by your private Nomad guide and escorted to your awaiting vehicle for the drive through the beautiful Lake Manyara National Park to the Ngorongoro Highlands. You will enjoy a leisurely picnic lunch enroute. Described by Hemingway as “the Garden of Eden”, Lake Manyara National Park is home to the legendary tree climbing lions and huge numbers of pink-hued flamingos. The Rift Valley escarpment provides a spectacular backdrop.

Then on to the Ngorongoro Highlands where you will spend the next 2 nights at Plantation Lodge, a privately-owned lodge set within lush gardens and surrounded by coffee plantations. Each of the 16 guest rooms and suites has its own style and design and some have verandahs with direct access to the garden.

You will enjoy healthy and tasty cuisine in the lodge’s restaurant – all vegetables, salads, fruits and herbs are home-grown in the garden. A real lodge treat is afternoon coffee and cake served alfresco in the garden!

During your stay, you can opt to visit a neighbouring coffee plantation to learn how coffee beans are treated or visit one of the adjacent farms to gain a fascinating insight into African country life. Of course, most importantly, the lodge is the ideal base from which to explore and experience the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater – a Unesco World Heritage site where some 25,000 animals live. It is the largest intact caldera in the world and is one of the few places in Africa where you stand a great chance of seeing the entire Big Five in the course of a single game drive.

Stay: 2 nights at Plantation Lodge

  • Days 3-4 Lamai Camp, Serengeti

Head to Lake Manyara airport today to join your morning flight to the Lobo airstrip in the Serengeti. Here, you will be met and transferred to Nomad’s Lamai Serengeti Camp where your refuge is one of just 12 luxury tented rooms in total, split between two separate camps - the Main Camp and the smaller Private Camp. Each tent site has been carefully designed so as to take full advantage of the complex geometry of the kopje, its sensational location, its views and the natural space and light. All rooms are a clever blend of canvas, ferro and natural poles with expansive verandas spread within the rocks. Each day ends with dinner under the stars and evenings often linger long into the African night!

As one of the few couples staying at this unique camp will have total flexibility in the planning of your day’s activities – you will enjoy games drives in your private 4WD vehicle with your own Nomad driver/guide.

Stay: 2 nights at Lamai Camp split between the Main Camp and the Private Camp

This morning, you will be transferred to the Serengeti airstrip to board your flight to Zanzibar where you will enjoy the next 7 nights at your choice of beach hotel or island retreat.
