Sofitel Legend Metropole, Hanoi
The Sofitel Legend Metropole has been an institution on the Hanoi hotel scene since its inception in 1901. With its elegant colonial style architecture and ideal location, just one block away from Hoan Kiem Lake in the heart of Hanoi, this is deservedly one of Hanoi's most popular hotels. The fascinating Old Quarter is within short walking distance and there are also many excellent restaurants and boutiques nearby.
Stepping into the elegant lobby with its colonial era wooden décor and decorated with fresh cut flowers, you will immediately be aware of the hotel’s grandeur and history. The Sofitel Legend Metropole has hosted distinguished guests including Charlie Chaplin, Somerset Maugham and Graham Greene. Jane Fonda broadcast from here during the Vietnam War and Joan Baez sang in the hotel’s bunker during an air raid.
Recently refurbished, the hotel’s 265 rooms are divided between historical and new wings. Whilst the new Opera wing offers beautifully appointed contemporarily designed rooms, the historical Historical wing provides guests with the wonderful colonial ambience this iconic hotel is famous for.
All rooms are stylishly furnished, with crisp white linen, exceptionally comfortable beds and large bathtubs. Rooms include all the necessary amenities including hair dryers, safety box and satellite television.
The hotel offers two restaurants – Le Beaulieu, renowned for its Sunday brunch, and Spices Garden which enjoys a superb reputation as one of the best restaurants in Hanoi for Vietnamese cuisine. There are also four bars to choose from, including the elegant La Terrasse as well as Le Club Bar which is perfect for High Tea or a martini.
Facilities include designer name boutiques, a beauty salon, a gym, a spa and an outdoor swimming pool. It is also possible to arrange a cooking class with the hotel's chef, where you start your day shopping together for fresh ingredients in the local market before preparing and then enjoying the food you have cooked.
The concierge will be able to recommend Hanoi’s top tables and you can even take a ride in one of the hotel’s monogrammed cyclos or in the classic 1930’s Citroen which is parked in the forecourt. The beautifully preserved vehicle can also be used for airport transfers or for transfers to Halong Bay.
