Family Holidays at Anantara Golden Triangle

An idyllic retreat in northern Thailand with views across to Burma and Laos, AND its own elephant camp, Anantara Golden Triangle offers luxury along with some once-in-a-lifetime experiences the kids will cherish forever. It’s not every day that you have the option to take a sunset trek atop elephant-back through the bamboo forest or have breakfast in Burma, lunch in Laos, and dinner in Thailand – you can here!

Family activities

The elephant camp takes center stage at the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp and you can choose from a variety of elephant encounter experiences from learning how to guide an elephant to practicing yoga with the gentle giants. The half-day mahout training experience teaches you how to communicate with and drive your own elephant through the bamboo forests of the expansive resort grounds and down to the river for a bath.

A tremendous highlight for younger kids is the baby elephant that greets guests every morning at breakfast. Children can feed the elephant with fruit and other goodies provided by the hotel staff. They can hop on the elephant’s back for a photo. Younger children will also enjoy the ability to walk down to the elephant camp, which is only steps away from the rooms, and interact with elephants in their natural habitat. If you have time their local guides can tailor a family day for you to meet with the mahouts who are tending to their elephants in the forest. You’ll be able to wash and feed the elephant with the mahout’s guidance.

For those looking to go beyond elephant encounters, the resort features a range of organized and do-it-yourself area excursions that let you see beyond the boundaries of the hotel. Excursions include longtail boat trips along the Mekong River, shopping trips to Laos and Burma, and cultural visits to Thai hill tribe villages. The resort also offers mountain biking, a Thai cooking class, rice planting, yoga, and conservation activities such as native tree planting.

After a day of elephant activities, you can indulge in the spa or retreat to the infinity pool which has a separate bubble Jacuzzi which the kids will love - servers come around with chilled face towels, sorbets, snacks, and juices.

Best rooms for families

The Deluxe 3 Country View Room can accommodate up to 2 adults and 1 child so if you have a larger family you can look at booking the 3 Country View Suite which can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children in one room. If you prefer more space the Deluxe rooms do interconnect or consider the expansive new 3 Country family suites, which are essentially a 3 country view room interconnecting with a suite, allowing you privacy but with a shared space with the additional living area in the suite.
