Family Holidays in Tahiti

The picture-perfect islands of Tahiti are synonymous with an idyllic honeymoon or special occasion holiday (big birthdays and anniversaries) but they are also brilliantly suited to a family holiday with plenty to offer children of all ages. Whilst the flight time from the UK is, admittedly, long - and something we wouldn’t recommend doing in one hit when you have small passengers with you – we’re all for making the most of a stop en route to break the journey and give you two holidays in one! The most direct route from Heathrow to Papeete (Tahiti’s gateway airport) is via LA, and there’s no better place to spend a night or two than sunny Santa Monica – just 8 miles from LAX. After you’ve recharged your batteries and explored some of the vibrant, child-friendly corners of LA and its surrounds, it’s a relatively painless 8 hour hop down to Tahiti, and what’s more, you’ll already be used to the time zone as LA is just two hours ahead of Tahiti time.

Once you’re in Tahiti, you'll know the journey was worth it when you see the mind-blowingly blue lagoons and the majestic green peaks rising out of the calm water. Younger children are well catered for in the brightly coloured and entertaining Kids Clubs found in many of the resorts, where activities include crab racing, beach volleyball, coconut painting and Polynesian cooking, whilst older children and teenagers will love the water sports on offer everywhere, including snorkelling, stand-up paddle-boarding, swimming with reef sharks, feeding stingrays or just splashing around in the pool. Most resorts offer babysitting services so you can enjoy some child-free romance in paradise, and the Tahitians are very family-focused and brilliant with children so you'll know your little ones are in excellent hands.

Best Family Resorts in Tahiti

Our favourite family resorts in The Islands of Tahiti include Four Seasons Bora Bora where your overwater bungalow can be child-proofed to ensure peace of mind; the newly renovated Conrad Bora Bora Nui Resort complete with a fabulous brand new Kids Club; Bora Bora Pearl Beach is great for older kids who enjoy mini-golf and tennis; InterContinental Resort Moorea has a Dolphin Centre and Turtle Care Centre on site; and if you're looking for the godfather of private islands, you can't beat a few nights at The Brando where families can retreat to their palatial villa on the beach complete with a private pool and where children will love the Lagoon School.
